Notice 02/12
Transport for London
London Taxi and Private Hire
Use of Taxi Ranks
There have been several complaints regarding taxis being left unattended on taxi ranks – the most recent example being around Victoria Station and the surrounding roads, in particular Gillingham Street.
All taxi drivers are reminded that they must not leave their taxis unattended on a taxi rank. Unattended taxis cause obstructions to other drivers, passengers and road users and can also cause security risks. Transport forLondon (TfL) works closely with the London boroughs to appoint taxi ranks where
road space allows.
Road space is difficult to obtain for taxi ranks and drivers abusing these ranks run the risk that the borough will reallocate the road space for other purposes if it isn’t being used correctly as a working taxi rank.
TfL has specifically been asked by Westminster City Council to inform drivers regarding the unacceptable situation on the taxi feeder rank inGillingham Street .
This rank is the final portion of the taxi ranks serving Victoria Station
forecourt and is for three taxis. It is the only space in this street where
taxis can legally wait to join the taxi rank on Vauxhall Bridge Road .
Unattended taxis left on this rank cause significant problems for other taxi drivers who then over-rank which, in turn, causes problems for other road users.
All drivers are also reminded that if there is no available space on this taxi rank, for any reason, then drivers should not stop but move on to another taxi rank where space is available.

OK John you've made that perfectly
clear....
So when can we expect to see Notice 03/12 informing private hire drivers that they cant park on licensed taxi ranks, or bus stops, or red lines, yellow line, zig zag lines, outside night venues, openly touting?
HasWestminster council shown any concern about
private hire vehicles regularly parked in Taxi ranks such as Addison
Lee using the taxi rank in Grosvenor
Crescent , the Grosvenor House Hotel, the
Dorchester , the pre booked radio TAXI rank at
Paddington station?
John, tellWestminster
that they can gladly ticked any vehicle that is left unattended on a Taxi rank
that is not a designated rest rank, as the Traffic Management Order (TMO) is
now in place and Code 45 in the wardens manual is reinstated. Then ask them why
they are refusing to enforce parking restriction when it comes to private hire
vehicles parking on the double yellow lines outside Swallow Street , reducing the road width
to one lane causing tail back to Piccadilly Circus
and beyond. Or what about the lines of illegally
parked PHVs outside Heddon Street, Shaftesbury Ave,
New Burlington Street, Dover Street, Arlington Street, Berkeley
Street, Conduit Street, Argyll Street. If you get a
reply from Martin Low or Kevin Goad I will gladly publish it on here for you.
Or once again is this another item designed to fragment the trade even further,
as driver start shouting yes lets punish our own and say nothing to the touts...

Has
John, tell
Mason, why don't you admit you can't handle this job
ReplyDeleteYou've made a complete arse of it
Just resigne and let someone else have a go.
It is an insult. How many times we have told LTPH about hordes of Licenced minicabs parking on the Taxi ranks, totally disrupting it's working and drivers threatening any Taxi trying to work the rank.
ReplyDeleteToday there was total chaos at New Burlington St S row of cars with TFL Roundels were ranked fully on the pavement cousing. My complaints Savil Row Police Station called on deaf ears so I resorted to email complain to Helen Chapman. Meanwhile the man known in the Taxi Trade as 'out of his depth, follow the agenda, makes his own rules' John Mason issues a notice re couple of cabs left on the rank. Disgrace.
Yours truly Simco
Is there a section in the orange LTDA diaries about this John?
ReplyDeleteIs that what you are doing, working your way through the diary and issuing notices?
That's probably why you never do anything about the touts because the LTDA diary, like the comic never mentions them.
You are just an amateur!
What a disgrace, and he's a West Ham Supporter - Yeah Right !!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteJOG ON YOU MUG...
Whilst I accept the sentament towards John Mason and the general attitude towards this notice, there are ranks, Tooting Broadway leaps to mind, that are used as parking spaces by All London Drivers because they wouldn't bother plying for hire on these ranks so they think noone else will.
ReplyDeleteThese Island ranks have become essential rank space for the newly swelling suburban ranks, now the old faces that we were led to believe had obtained a green badge are mysteriously re emerging identifierless.
As the Main station ranks are filling up, the Island and extension ranks are taking the overflow of radio cabs who don't RELY on walk-ups but need a space to conserve fuel between jobs, not drive from one borough to the next trying to find a space.
What happens in town is best understood by those of you who work there, but please spare a thought in the suburbs for the working yellow badge who will need that space two minutes after you clear off to Macdonalds, or Tooting market.
If not, don't be surprised if a desperate Canary reports you or tries to get you a ticket.
This is a warning, not a threat, but however desperate you think it is in town, come and try to take a days money in the burbs. You'll understand why I make this polite request then....
An absolute disgrace
ReplyDeleteHow long have we been complaining about scabs parking on our ranks?
And he says nothing
Does he not want to upset Griffin, incase he don't give Boris another 25 large?
I go past Arnos Grove rank a few nights a week and there are always one or two minicabs parked in it - at first glance they look empty, but if you look closer, you'll see a driver curled up asleep, dribbling on the passenger seat. This must be the "greatest private hire service in the world" that Mason talked about in his first ever press release.
ReplyDeleteJohn Mason,
ReplyDeleteDo you ever speak up for the cab trade!!!!.
Westminster gets on the phone to you and you jump.
That was a great opportunity to tell Westminster about the scabs parked up all over the west end, But nooooo you do as your told by someone in westminster and not in your change of command ( COWARD )
get in the real world and up to speed , you ain't got long.....
This can't be true ( Can it )
....
I guess Cbj's must have sent John Mason photographs of taxis being left unattended and also parking outside their rank don't you think?
ReplyDeleteI've seen more taxis unattended on taxi ranks than phv by a long shot, taxis couldnt get on the john lewis rank yesterday because because 3 empty taxis were sitting there and this was about 6pm. whilst i agree westminster wrongly allow phv to sit on double yellows, lets sort our own ship out and stop lazy drivers from parking up on ranks at prime times of the day. As for the odd phv waiting on a taxi rank, i have never had a problem moving them on, infact i quite enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI can tell that you have never worked nights. Scabs move on with no problem , YOUR A FUNNY GUY !!!!
DeleteIn the daytime I find that minicab drivers who are told to move off a rank will usually comply, after threatening to behead me. I can't say I quite enjoy it.
DeleteCoventry St rank last week 9pm 2 empty cabs parked space for one cab could believe it, got to be the same mugs that ignore the cabs rankings up and put on outside cafe du Paris
ReplyDeleteLondon cabby
Yet agian another red rag to a bull from the diplomat or is it diploprat?
ReplyDeleteKeep focussing on trivia Mr Mason, Identifiers, rank parking etc. etc. whilst you fiddle Rome burns with thousands of PH and Non PH touts parking wher they want!
Have a trip down Romilly Street and Soho any night.
Get off OUR case and enforce he law!
Travis B,
DeleteYour comment about Mason taking a trip to Soho.Has made me smile, and is Pointless.Seriously we all know he dont have it in him to confront Touts,Much rather play the big man with us,Knowing full well we have to much to lose if we answer back.
Night after night clip board guys at anthologist bar in gresham street and reflex bar in watling st tout on the pavement and form illegal ranks. What has John Mason done about this? Absolutely nothing! Their clip board guys have been arrested on various occasions yet no revocation of license. John Mason your a complete joke!
ReplyDeleteI say just ignore this pompous fool, the scabs do, and so does the door man at Nobu.
ReplyDeletePowerless, gutless, clueless and brainless.
Can't wait for the day we can add jobless to the list.
I used to put on the rank in brewer st .... But it is now a lawless mini scab car park wardens or bobbies unable
ReplyDeleteTo enforce the law .
..
can you give me a list of taxi ranks being used by phv,saw them on park lane last night and at least 25% of our rank was occupied by phvs, need to know all the others as i will keep a diary on them, cheers.
