For me this beggars beleif !
Here is the big news; Hydrogen vehicles are NOT zero emissions; where do people think the Hydrogen comes from. The last time I checked prodcuing Hydrogen is not a very energy efficient process and therfore in its production it creates emissions.
It is also the case that Hydrogen is extremely explosive; remeber the Hindenburg? Thats right it blew up!
Hydrogen is also difficult to store. There have been recent develepments in hydride tanks but there is definately not any commercial viability for the introduction of hydrogen distribution and storgae in the near future.
In the short term there are fuel efficency and emissions reddcution technologies which could be implemeented in a cost effective way immediately. This is not done becuase TFL actively oppose such ideas, for reasons best known to themselves.
In the longer term there are vehicles in development which will create minimal emisisons and give the eqivalent of 100mpg. These vehicles will be available in 2012.
In the mean time my advice would be dont buy a TX4 becuase they will not be compliant with emisisons sytandards in a very short space of time; a TX4 which was 1 month old and had done less than 1000 miles was tested ata VCA lab on a rolling road dyno and failed a Euro 3 test. This is becuase LTI exploit a loophole in the law , which means that becuase they produce less than 5000 vehicles a year they do not have to condcut any In Service Emisions Conformity Test, (which is an EU requirement for all vehicle manufacturers)
I have also noticed that the sales of the Vito are less than expected.
Mr Mason has not made any annoucements about the Taxi Age Limit or exemptions which he was due to do in August, so my guess is that perhaps they have realised that they are improper and unlawful.
Perhaps drivers should wait and see what happens !

A hybrid bus broke down last night on London wall .. the closed half of it.. police were in attendendence, they swept an unidentified substance under a bus ... a normal bus does not require special attention. Can you imagine the disruption 16000 hydrogen cabs and about 3000 buses would cause .. Ltc can't even get old diesal technology working properly let alone let us all drive round with mini nuclear reactors .. maybe the cabs will all explode and London will be taken over by apes from London zoo and become the planet of the apes ... still that's just about as stupid as the powers that be putting together a emmitions policy that works both for the driver and air ....
