Friends Reunited?...Travis B Writes:

We predicted on here, it would all end in tears.

Blast from the past Dec 2009
Despite 'words of of advice' given by this blog, the LTDF and in person given to those concerned, it seems like the 'love in' between the committee of the LCDC with TfL and the LTDA is over.
Apart from the LCDC chairman, was anyone surprised that the PH consultation gave us NOTHING that protects our right to ply for hire, stops touting or gives any meaningful enforcement against the flawed concept of satellite offices?

The LCDC want Identifiers yet PH are required to have nothing except the little sticker behind the window tint, the TfL roundel is optional and only there so they can set down on Red Routes.

"No Booking, No Ride" Sticker for PH Now, NO exemptions!

That allied to Mr Bob Oddy claiming 'its us that did it', for the somewhat pyrrhic victory at Abacus (sorry boys the usual suspects still touting there, plus Diamond Cars have now added two new venues to their empire).
And now he's 'done a deal' at TfL to get us access to the ORN, well we haven't got it! as Mr Hendy says, we may be allowed to go in the bus lane alongside the ORN when the buses do, on some of the lower priority routes (Archery anyone?) but that's all!

BIG DEAL! 100% access is our demand.

Corperate sponsors to use ORN
Whilst we are on about the Woodfield Road gang, The last edition of Taxi is again running another 'story' about the RMT. This time its about the proposed merger with the TSSA and according to Mr Pessok, its all top secret. I wonder then what the weekly emails to the RMT membership updating them on this are all about and that (unlike some!) the membership of both organisations will get a vote yes or no.
The RMT/TSSA could look forward to Mr Hendy  Mr Mason as members!
Usual lies about membership numbers,Tacho's and GMB do little to give any credibility to anything in the magazine. Some drivers even double check the papers date now!

Sticky Subject?

Now LTDA is claiming 'copyright' of 'No Booking, No Ride' stickers for PH yet their own response to the PH consultation has not even been shown to their members so how do we know?
Anyway its been a condition in many licensing areas for years. Maybe one of the LTDA  minions read my post on here and thought 'Here's a good idea you lordship'?
The LTDA are in no position to talk about consultation as they effectively tore up the livelihood of many drivers when they agreed the 15 year age limit with nothing in return with no consultation whatsoever with those who keep them in such fine style at Taxi House. We know it wont work as a 14 yer old cab has the same engine and TX4's fail just as many smoke tests! We wonder what they and the UTG (or what's left of it?) will do when the inevitable 10 year limit come along. Announce it as yet another 'reasonable compromise'?

Pot, Kettle, Black?

Unite, blowing in the wind?
Now, nearly last and very probably least;
UNITE (exT&GW), the once great union in the cab trade, is at its lowest ebb after years of being led by those with only self interest at heart and who allied themselves to the anti union LTDA, (still let us not gloat), it has been suggested that UNITE choose the same dates as RMT Branch meetings so they can use one of the RMT member's cabs for the UNITE branch meeting whilst the RMT one goes on in the hall.
I have been informed that the last branch meeting lasted for a whole four minutes, including a minutes silence at the beginning.

Harsh but accurate!

Enough though of others obvious shortcomings, there is unity in the cab trade in the guise of the ordinary working drivers of the UCG, RMT and the 'rank & file' of the UTG, whose direct debit  to LCDC/LTDA/UNITE seems to be a habit difficult to kick.
In fact much better protection is available elsewhere.
JOIN THE PROGRESSIVE ALLIANCE and hit the UTG where it hurts, in the pocket!
Cancel that UTG Direct Debit today, stand taller in an instant!
You know it makes sense!

Editorial comment:

Coming Soon

TfL paid-for PH marshals coming soon

If  Livingston (sponsored by Unite) gets back in, he will approve PH roof signs (on LBC)
Taxis thrown off station ranks to make way for marshalled minicab ranks (Kingston, Richmond, Sutton etc.. etc.)

  1. The only one's really upset about the break up of the cosy relationship between Davis, Cox, Sullivan and Mason, is themselves and the owner of the fish and chip shop.
The ordinary working , rank and file drivers are over the moon.
Now lets get back to business!!!!

I don't understand the mentality of the drivers in Kingston - if some two bob marshal came up to me to move me on in order to give my space over to a minicab i would tell him in very sharp language exactly where to stick his idea!

They would need to get the police there to force me to move on, now if only the drivers in Kingston done this together then they would start to maybe turn the tide down there and win a fight back.

  3. I would like to know who was responsible for the sell out of Kingston?

Who singed over Kingston to the minicabs?

Who ever did must have known about STaN?

So why didn't they inform us all about STaN?

Who from the LTDA and Unite attended these meetings to sell us down the river?

  5. Well, Peter Rose has allot to say about the position of Unite, rock bottom in my opinion.

Anyway come on Unite inform us all, what is Unites policy on the STaN agenda?

Does Unite the Union accept and agree with all of the points that the STaN agenda covers?

So far there has been no report good bad or otherwise from Unite, so is it safe to assume that Unite the LTDA and the biscuit boys, by their silence agree with everything contained in the STaN agenda?

So come on Peter Rose, and fellow committee members of Unite why do you remain silent? As has been stated previously:

Surely any self respecting trade Union would challenge any points within the STaN agenda where it could or would have a detrimental effect on the livelihoods and working conditions of it's members.

Is there a valid reason for your SILENCE?

  9. Off With Their Heads!09/10/2011 07:00

It was Steve Howard LTDA committee member and Tony Ellis ex-LTDA.

Now Steve Howard is a marshal across the road outside the dead as a dodo Oceana Nightclub for guess who... Tony Ellis's company... marshals.com

They both gave the Taxi rank away to private hire for their own personal gain.

Those of you who think the LTDA are here to protect you and fight for your rights are seriously wrong.

If you have a single shred of moralistic fibre in your body or an ounce of commonsense you should stop giving the LTDA another penny to make them all handsomely paid whilst very soon your job could be on the scrapheap.

Do the decent thing and leave them now.
