Addison Lee please take note and keep off our ranks!
Despite my own personal reservations, the rank has been operating extremely well and has been serviced all this week. The Tout shop (as licensed by LTPH) is finding it hard to operate as people choose real Taxis at affordable prices as they leave the area. I would have liked to have seen the rank take up the whole stretch, including the Cranbourn street lights loading bay area, used by minicabs as a rank, to the bus stop outside the 24 hour supermarket/minicab office, but even as it stands, the rank is proving very efficient.
| Touts spitting at Taxis |
Unbelievably, these Licensed Private Hire drivers are now spitting at the Taxis who are legally ranking, in a bid to cause confrontation. The pavement in front of the Taxi rank is a wash with disgusting globules of tout induced spit.
PCO enforcement is needed at this rank to keep an eye on the tension, which could escalate into violent attacks on working Taxi drivers.
Unfortunately, LTPH in conjunction with WCC will not be placing Cab Enforcement Officers at this location, but instead will place two marshals at the rank on Friday and Saturday nights. Coventry Street's Golden Fares Rank will now be suspended.
The marshals at CXR will have no power whatsoever and will only be able to open and close doors.
See media announcement from TfL
Is this good value for money.
Private marshal companies reputedly charge somewhere in the region of £60 per marshal per hour?
Two marshals at £300 per night, per marshal, an astonishing £1200 over the two nights, that's £62400 annually out of the enforcement budget.
That money would pay for two PCSO's working 5 nights a week not just weekends!
I would rather see the money be spent on more night shift enforcement officers to be used at this spot as I cannot see a need for someone just to open doors, the passengers already know how to do that.
We need visible enforcement to discourage the touts. Officers with powers of arrest. Perhaps we could utilise some of the thousands of British Transport Police officers (the ones who are often used to catch fare dodgers on buses), or a couple of PCSO who could actually work out much cheaper.
How long have TfL told us they didn't have the money to mark out this rank (which cost, we are informed, just £500)?
Yet they can now find £1200 a week to supply two taxi marshals with no powers other than opening doors!
Why did the LTDA (who have a reputed £4m in the bank) refuse to fund the marking out of this rank and yet paid double to fund a rest rank for 4 cabs in Lincoln's Inn fields?
When all is said and done, the success of this rank hinges on the ordinary working driver who night after night will put their safety at risk to service this rank. These are the ones that I take my hat off to, these are the ones who should get the Kudos.

Guys Diamond cars have now taken over Reflex and Anthologist Bar. Whats going on? Time for us to wake up!
ReplyDeleteAnd VVC cars have the Vauxhall Cross area all to theirselves.
ReplyDeleteNo Enforcement, drivers in blue HiVis tops tout openly night after night.
Seems like there are funny comments on this page as from what i know the company that does reflex and anthologist bar is actually called ride 2 ltd who are a sister company of Diamond cars. Diamond has blue hi-vis and ride 2 ltd their sister company wear black and silver hi-vis!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't matter what company they are with they are still touts given a free hand to do what they like
ReplyDeleteNothing funny about that mate
Is that a free hand given by the PCO? Or us lot?
ReplyDeletePCO
ReplyDeleteLTPH
TfL
CoL Police
CoL corporation
All at fault, all giving the touts a free hand
As for the licensed Taxi trade, we are not a licensing authority or police force
It's not our job to enforce the law
Well are we only going to moan and groan!
ReplyDeleteThe Anderson Shelter would like to personally thank Paul White and Sean Kellet who put in over two years work, completely unpaid, to help get this rank up and running.
ReplyDeleteWe would also like to thank the drivers who have given there time to service the rank when it was not occupied by touts.Drivers who put themselves in danger night after night to shame TfL/LTPH and the council into action.
Why has this taken so long, when Oddy can get a rest rank up and running in just a few weeks?
Immense thanks to Paul White and Sean Kellet for their personal input for this rank, well done lads !
ReplyDeleteAs we all know, our touting problem is a massive menace to our trade. Enforcement is totally and utterly useless. Unless the police and enforcement team is increased with some manpower and biting teeth, our trade will be eaten alive by this ravaging cancer. Enforcement is currently woeful, and requires a proper professional at the helm......now !

If they are spitting at Licenced taxis, why dont we all go up to them all, and give them a slap and feck em off ?
ReplyDeleteThe reason they tout, and get away with it, is because the UTG, (LTDA LCDC and Unite) never challenged STaN.
ReplyDeleteSo some may say, the UTG must fully support and endorse Private Hire Pick Up Points, Ranks, all over central London and in the Suburbs where our Licensed Taxi Driver colleagues have been mullerd.
The LTDA LCDC and Unite have been given ample time (since last October a whole year) to explain why they have remand silent over this issue, which has a detrimental effect on our livlihoods, and still no comment in the trade press, webb sites, and forums.
The only group to challenge STaN is the United Cabbies Group and you Jimmy God bless, the latest edition of the UCG news is iniment and we can but hope that the UCG give TfL A kick up the JACKSY, pay back day is on it's way.
Get a life mate
ReplyDeleteCome on guys lets give this reflex and anthologist bar a visit
ReplyDeleteWell done to all who did sterling job to make ChXRd rank the success it deserves to be.
ReplyDeleteMany commends mention other countless venues that are now a viper's nests and danger to Joe public.
Add to it Derring St which is totally cut of by roadworks. Dimond touts and others are touting there without control. The situation has developed under apathetic eye of UTG and LTDA.
UCG does the best job on all fronts and works for the trade and taxi drivers. It is imperative that all drivers get involved and work together to safeguard their jobs.
