| Badly injured woman fallen from rickshaw. |
The Ribble Valley MP - who came out as gay last December - argued that taxis were allowed entry.
A source said: "He's a great character and very popular at Westminster but the officers on the front gate had quite a surprise when he arrived late at night in a rickshaw.
"The police refused to let the rickshaw through because it was unlicensed and the driver didn't have identity documents."
As one of three deputy speakers, Mr Evans is responsible for ensuring order in the chamber. A spokesman for the MP - who had spent the evening in London's West End - confirmed: "He did get a rickshaw back to the Commons.
"He needed the fare because he didn't have any cash on him."
A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: "A vehicle was refused entry as it was not an authorised vehicle.

What chance do we have when pratts from the gas works want to use them???
ReplyDeleteSo rickshaw wanted to charge money for the ride from Brewer St to HoC? Illegal to charge/demand money for rides, only gifts/in kind payments.
ReplyDeleteThis MP Deputy Speaker is a bonker and got help us if this is the best we have in HoC. Not having '5 for a London Taxi is a lame excuse for using those dangerous three wheelers with dodgy riders.
ReplyDeleteIn London Taxi he would be aloud throuh the gates where he could be able to sort out his fare.
As it is illegal for rickshaw driver to demand fare, was this silly man planing to tender a gift or pay in-kind?
Those Third World contraptions should not be allowed on the streets of out Capital City and should be banned immediately. To do that we need somebody in the Goverment who has balls!
