Minicab Wannabes Told By Court to Stay Out Of Bus Lanes...By Thomas the Taxi.

Again the good name of our trade has come under attack from lazy journalism. This time from an online magazine aimed at the City of London called "City AM". Read Here
In her article in the daily capitalist column about the reintroduction of foot messengers to the square mile, HARRIET DENNYS refers to John Griffin as  Britain’s best-known Taxi driver. Surely an insult to every licensed Taxi driver who has completed the knowledge.

Harriet Dennys
Harriet obviously hasn't done her research. Griffin has never been a Taxi driver, he never had the strength of character to make the grade. He is in fact no more than a back street minicab driver who found a way of amassing a fortune on the backs of extremely low paid foreign workers desperate for a job. Apart from the fact he tells his drivers to park on licensed Taxi ranks, there the similarity ends.

You would think that writing for an online City magazine, Harriet would at least take the time to do some basic research into articles she posts but no, sadly not. She goes on and actually calls him a Taxi Tycoon later in her article.

In her interview Griffin takes a pop at the trade he aspired to emulate and now despises, saying;
Addison Lee is on an “upwards spiral”, with revenue up 22 per cent for the year to date, lifted by the new iPhone app for mobile bookings – “the single biggest contributor to revenue upturn in the company’s history”. “The days of standing in the street waving your hand to get a cab are over.”

MEANWHILE, Addison’s Lee’s legal battle to win the right to use bus lanes has come to a disappointing (for him) conclusion. The court has refused the minicab firm’s appeal, in a judgment that has left him fuming.

Griffin has been on tenterhooks for weeks to hear whether he would secure the ruling to allow his vans in Bus Lanes.

“We are only seeking fairness,” said Griffin, who plans to seek a judicial review.

“We demand the right to trade on a level playing field with our competitors.”

That's easy done Johnny, just get your minicab drivers to do the knowledge and buy a fleet of proper Taxis. That way they can legally drive in most bus lanes and use licensed Taxi ranks, instead of flouting the law.

Mind you Johnny, you wont get away with paying them the minimum wage, so you probably wont be doing that!
Harriet, next time you get in one of Griffins vans, ask the driver how much he earns an hour, I promise you, you will be shocked!

  1. Nice on TtT, I'll be penning an educative e-mail to the culprit and her editor as the volume of objection to such slack journalism must be felt.

  2. typical of Griffin, the back street minicab driver to take some one else's reputation and try to leapfrog over it.

  3. I'm regular visitor to this blog it's very interesting, but This article is a clear indication that your trade is dying, you are paying so much attention to Addison Lee and minicab affairs and tiny things that won't help recitate your trade, if you use all that energy to compete and move into 21st century you would have demolish minicabs, in fact you would have stayed superior!
you should arrange and sort your internal affairs ( ie: invest in the technology, change your cabs to comfortable, air conditioning-I raise my hat to the VITO owners -...., force yourself to be helpful -customer service-, some of you has given bad bad bad reputation to your trade, Elect or select some serious people to represent your trade, and the most important thing remember that your trade doesn't owe you a living! Your job is like any other job, hard )
Addlee drivers are self employed, they earn their living in a comfortable built  business system  (Jhon Griffin  doesn't owe me a living, it's a contract, it's up to my dedication and responsibility to earn my living, I have been an addlee driver for 19 years,no complain, the few bad apples ( drivers) who complain have, no work ethics, and they would rather  tout, or work for those StaN minicab offices in the west end and that's where they belong, or may be they should join you so they will have more room to complain and moan as  your majority do
There are about 3000 Addlee drivers and they  are gaining more ground against you??! call it whatever but they are great agents of Addison Lee brand.it is a fact
For your trade sadly, it is irreversible, the generation growing up, are minicabs, smartphone and playstation generation, an other 30 years if not less, your cab taxi will be in museum! Or will be history as route master and red  pay phone boxes
Still I like your sence of humour# Griffin has never been a Taxi driver, he never had the strength of character to made the grade#  the guy has written the future of minicabs and your trade. Don't be surprised if in next few years you ( taxis drivers) will call him SIR Griffin,  I see it  coming , the man had a vision like any other successful business man and he didn't waste his time doing the knowledge.
    Have a pleasant journey

  4. The man did have a vision,it was to mug migrants like you to work at minimum wage or less, that's why you tout, but, hey, that the norm in the country's you come from, but who is jhon griffin,i thought it was john griffin, the man that thinks he is so clever--he had his lights knocked out at the dover st wine bar??

So he has written the future of minicabs, well has he,the police know that minicabs operate by nothing more than wide boys,he didn't waste his time doing the knowledge, well he should have then he could teach you mugs how to get around, when road works screw up your sat navs.

As for moving into the 21st century, yes we have been slow, that's because of riesel, rice, and oddy, but there is a new generation of cab driver coming through now, many coming over from phv,who don't want to be mugged over--like you--after all you have been a phv driver by your own admition for 19 years, after 19 years you still cant make the grade.

As for calling him sir griffin,i don't think so,but have a pleasant day.

O`your back to 112`s,19 years and still no good.

  5. City AM journalism is slack and the standards has slipped. The so called journalists just copy without research and checking their story for accuracy.
The AddLoo poster thinks he is giving advice from the throne but he seems blissfull for not knowing what he never had. 19 years and still being a loyal pet.... no other word to describe it! As for this being a future, here so many work for so few? Being exploited without even realising it, no thank you, no no no!

  6. I have had many passengers in my cab that were ex ad lee uses reasons :

    Untidy cabs
    Expensive
Drivers not knowing where they are going

I even had one passenger that an add lee driver refused to take because she had to much luggage... which could be interpreted as bad customer service.. she was not happy.
