Its time for London to ban these contraptions before fatalities start racking up.
Boris, how long before someone is killed?
Wednesday: In one incident a young women was thrown to the ground when the Rickshaw-bike she was a passenger in overturned while racing another Rickshaw-bike on Shaftesbury Avenue.
Thursday: Another young lady was thrown to the carriageway when her Rickshaw overturned, negotiating the roundabout on the south side of Waterloo bridge.
Again on Thursday night: Three young girls were injured when their Rickshaw overturned outside Harrods.
Sunday: A Rickshaw was hit by a Mercedes car beside the Queen mothers gate on Park Lane. The young lady passenger was rushed to hospital in an ambulance.
TfL supported by Westminster council have been pushing for a ridiculous voluntary licensing scheme whereby if a Rickshaw signs up, they will then be allowed certain facilities in the West End such as their own ranks.
If a rickshaw bike driver doesn't fancy having to get insurance, possibly receiving PCN or generally becoming more responsible, then they won't have to sign up.
The bill, currently going through Parliament, has only been objected to by The RMT and the LCDC. Apparently the LTDA and Unite the Union decided not to object.

Jim, have you noticed how quickly the bikes are ushered away after an incident.
ReplyDeleteIs this a cover up that it is in fact a pedicab accident?
These bikes are protected by the Greens
ReplyDeletewho believe these deathtraps are zero emissions. Never mind the human cost, let alone the congestion they cause every night and day in central London.
what a waste.
ReplyDeleteBan them now Boris.
why as the anderson shelter let oddy off.
have you now sold out to oddy.
you should be ashamed of yourself.
you use to have some ball, you sell out waste of time, loser.
There is no question that these deathtraps should be licensed.
ReplyDeleteThey must be banned
As like mini cab touts if people didn't use them they wouldn't get raped and if people didn't use the death trap bikes they wouldn't get hurt, that's. The answer from the head of transport for London. T f l. Will never ban them they are just working out how they can make some money from the death traps. . ........
ReplyDeleteThe poster who posted that rubbish at 17:28 get your name on it or clear off, smashingit.
ReplyDeleteanon.
ReplyDeletehow has TtT sold out to Oddy you muppet?
He's reporting the story and no where does he stick up for the LTDA or Oddy so wind your neck in and behave.
fool.
The Anon poster at 17:28 can't write and is obviously semi illiterate. He doesn't need to put his name on it. There is only one organisation in the cab trade that can't write proper, speak proper, or fink proper.
ReplyDeleteThis organisation is led sycophant and bit part actor failure. This organisation and its leader think they are at the cutting edge of cab trade politics. Sadly they are the trades worst blunt tool in the box!

ReplyDeleteHow have you got the front to call anyone a 'sell out' when your own chairman has done exactly that to all his members and the trade.
Mason won't be there forever and Grant will be on his own!
Oddy was in favour of the deathtrap voluntary registration scheme & now he seems to have had a change of heart. Perhaps he's realised his complete & utter failure to watch out for those he takes money from to protect their interest's, when he & the UTG agreed to the licensing of Minicabs & the biggest threat our trade has ever seen. Thanks Bob & Co!
