The Lines have been repainted and PCO have visited the Private Hire kiosk... The Rank is Back.
From the forum...
I put on the Charing Cross Road rank tonight, the look on all of the tout's faces was priceless, sheer bewilderment!!
When I was point, a minicab pulled alongside me and wound his window down. I thought he was going to ask me to move off his rank, but he didn't. He did try to tout my passenger though, as he crossed the road to my cab.
Anyway, got off to Clapham within 5 minutes, and a pal did 2 minutes later and was off to Shoreditch. It should be a very good rank..
Mr Simco, I think I saw you with the RMT vest on giving out leaflets, and encouraging drivers onto the rank. Fair play to you mate.
We must service this rank.

Its That Man Again...
In his own words we will let Simco tell the story....
I got to the Rank at Ch X Rd at Midnight and couldn't get on it as it was full of SCABS (as licenced by PCO)
After a bit of persuasion I managed to park up and started to encourage passing drivers to put on as well. Most drivers were unaware that there was a proper Taxi Rank in this strategic place.
This is because every night the hordes of minicabs park there and are available for immediate hire. (£2500 fine).
To cut the 1 hour long story short, the night was a total success. The rank was mostly filled up with cabs and this acted like a magnet to passengers. Drivers were always off within minutes.
I have noticed that the more taxis we had the more the passengers were attracted. It's because it looked like a proper Rank.
Many passengers commented about feeling safe as many taxis were waiting to whisk them away.
Please try to put on Ch X Rd Rank if nearby.
Well done TtT, Simco, Albert Embankment and all the others who got this back up.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt Mr. S Pessok and the rest of the heroes at Woodfield Road will soon have TAXI claiming a famous victory.
If they do YOU know the truth!
Well done all.
ReplyDeleteWhat I want to know is why Mason and the PCO don't fine them 2,500 quid?
It must be the easiest thing they could ever do to catch them.
Go there any night of the week...
"This is a Taxi rank...
You're a scab...
Here's a 2,500 pound fine"
Why are you protecting them?
What's going on here?
Whats going on, what do you think?
ReplyDeleteAn unholy cocktail of Martin Low, Bob (keep schtum about the Pedicab Deal Martin)Oddy, The Brown Envelope army of Westminster Parking and our old chum 'Action Man' John Mason.
Why are they letting them get away with it.
ReplyDeleteWell imagine this scenario,You have a regular from the Novotel Hammersmith, At 6am every Monday morning to Terminal 1,and every week he hands you an envelope with £200 in it for the fare, all you have to do is turn a blind eye to the fact he smokes in the cab on the journey there. Its illegal, but theres a £150 bonus for turning a blind eye.so you look the other way.
MONEY TALKS,there can be no other reason that the people in authority turn a blind eye to the antics of PHVs,Remember if they act on the touts they will have to act on the big boys as well. And thats why you will never get a public enquiry into TPHL
