Touting Out Of Hand, No Enforcement....by Thomas the Taxi

Vauxhall Cross contains a collection of night clubs, plus on the Albert Embankment there are a number of cafes and restaurants. For many years now touts have operated in the area, completely unabated by the local authorities or PCO/LTPH enforcement officers. Lines of licensed private hire cars illegally rank along the beginning of the Wandsworth Road on club nights, feeding a hi-viz clipboard Johnnie who accosts clubbers by the gates as they leave the venue.

Just around the corner two clubs, Fire and Holst are served by a brigade of blue vested PHV drivers who stand around touting unchecked. Many complaints have been made by Taxi drivers, but the operation still goes on unchecked.

Last week while driving along Albert Embankment I saw an army of blue vested PH drivers, standing outside the night club just before the one way system. I parked the cab up to see how these scabs were operating.

There is a clipboard man in full sight of the public, on the pavement. But not content with forming a queue most scabs walk up and down mingling with the crowed trying to tout fares.
Cars even park illegally on the pavement. While I was there I saw first hand the drivers touting and arguing with each other in a feeding frenzy style bid to "nick a job". So now they are stealing from each other as well as nicking our work.

Most of the drivers I saw in this area, seem to work for a Car firm, VVC and had blue vests carrying a number. But there were also other scabs there without vests who were observed picking off the odd job.

Another Touting hot stop has re-emerged outside the late night Bar On Anon. With the bus lane suspended, Diamond cars, the same ones that tout outside Abacus and the Apt Bar in the City, have taken up residency in the bus lane completely unhindered by council or carriage office enforcement.

This is how London utilises the highly skilled migrant labour that our country needs so badly!

What the touts are doing is illegal; what the police are doing is both corrupt and illegal.

What local councils are doing is all of the above.

Last and by no means least TfL fully support these illegal activities and lie about the sexual assaults perpetrated by the so called industry that supports transportation needs in the capital.

You can sell any old rubbish with a fancy label, this one is branded by all of the the above agencies as STaN!

  2. Okay we know Touting is out of control here in London,But we also know its not just a London thing, its countrywide,And now with MPs looking at the trade, maybe its time we all got together,And arranged a series of Demos to happen on the same days, same times, all over the country,Because at the moment I dont suppose a MP in Derby say, give a flying if London gets blocked up,But having them all over the country at the same time would not only bring it to thier doorstep, but would also make the main news.Forcing them to take action. The main theme of these Demos would have to be the sexual assaults,And how even though touting is illegal the authorities and police turn a blind eye. This could be our Golden opportunity so lets not let it pass

  3. We accept minicabs on our radio circuits!

We accept minicabs on our ranks!

We accept minicabs ranking in the street!

We by our non action, give the sign to TfL that we are NOT prepared to fight for our jobs.

We either demonstrate or lose our jobs.

  4. Lose our jobs it is then!

As for GARYS, take the blinkers off mate. The people you want unity with are too busy holding the legs of the cab trade open while TfL and private hire rape it, and they ain't fussy what angle they do us from!

    It's all in hand.

Mr. Mason annouced another million pounds for enforcement at the LCDC non AGM.

We got one more enforcement officer with a larger remit to include vehicel inspections and premises/operators licences.

That's real value and will soon have the streets cleared!

  6. @ anon 3,I think you have completely missed the point,Do you think I would put any trust in our so called leaders No,But at the moment we have Mason deciding who he will talk to,Hendy calling the shots,AND Boris being fed what they want him to believe, any complaint about the sexual assaults, touting etc,is as being down to a few militant cabbies. And slung in the bin. They feel safe sitting in thier little tower calling the shots.Esp as around 60% of cab drivers live out of London,so dont get to vote in the Mayoral elections anyway,
But by making this national we dont have to even consider anyone but ourselves,And all it will take is a letter to your MP,He will have to listen,[apart from the fact we all know they are on a good screw]He wont want to lose his seat.So if we start acting now by the time it gets to be debated in Parliment they will have a good insight into whats really happening, not just here in London,But all over the country,

  7. Is there a number on your badge, or does say DFC Member?26/07/2011 18:49

This whole thing will be over when the UTG get to see past the obstacle that's in the way.

Grant's head will be the first to be forced through the headboard by Mason. Oddy will retire to count his pot of gold donated by his many mugs that put their faith in a little orange diary they think will ward off all evil.

Unite the union will remain torn between Cuba and the plight of the Palestinian people and will continue their cultivation of their rose with no thorns!

25,750 London cab drivers will remain in the DFC (Dumb Fu*#ers Club) waiting for their job applications to be accepted by Addison Lee.

What is it going to take for the average cabman to tell TfL what they can do with STaN and harmonisation?

Step up to the plate Grant Davis and be a man.

Because as things stand. Never in the face of adversity has a single man shown such cowardice in the face of the enemy as the current chairman of the LCDC !

  9. Alan Kelly, Jim Wells and Alan Fleming would all stand and fight the enemy, the ranks and ranks of illegal licensed minicabs......... come on Grant......we have to fight...and now!

Lets not attack Grant Davis, remember he has no choice but to kow tow to Messrs. Oddy & Mason as the price of sitting at Palestra and feeling important but failing to solve any of his members problems.

This guy is a frustrated actor, The Badge, Palestra and Guido's is the only stage he ever gets to appear now! Very sad really.

Is he still the Chairman as there was not an AGM?

    All a mystery.
