On Friday night, 8th July, a taxi caught fire in Central London's New Oxford Street, just yards away from the popular 101 bar, which was full of customers.
The Flames led many people to believe a bomb had just gone off.
Thankfully it was a false alarm, one of LTI's/LTC's infamous spontaneous blazing Taxis.
This is the 7th TX2 that we know of that has gone up in flames.
The fact it happened in such a high profile location with hundreds of on-lookers means LTI/LTC cannot now deny there is a problem.
But, will they do anything about it?
Don't hold your breath!
I hope the driver is ok, and I congratulate him for his freedom from the shackles of owning an LTI shitcart deathtrap!
TfL/LTPH must also share in the responsibility for these vehicles bursting into flames, as each of these vehicles has been passed as fit for purpose by their agents SGS. They have known about this problem since the TX4 07 fires.
Mr "acabbie" gives good advice:
My TX1 caught fire at the oak a few years back, thankfully i was quick enough with the extinguisher to put it out before any real harm done. Wasn't able to drive it as it wouldn't start but got the AA to take me to my mechanic and he sorted it for me.
The problem and i'd urge any owners to check themselves; was that the part of the wiring loom that goes to the solenoids (as you look at the engine bay, on the left side you see a few relay boxes in the top left corner) that control the glow plugs runs under the steering column in the engine bay, in my case the loom got worn through and when i went to start it up there was a short which ignited the actual loom!

In some ways this is good news as new legislation means you must not let your engine run why you sit freezing on a rank.........so just warm your hands on the pyrotechnic TX taxi as it spontaneously combusts in front of you.
ReplyDeleteSo what will TFLs answer be,take all TX2s off the road, until a solution is found. What was interesting though was when the guy said we are fu**** now as there will be no 38s,Yep bendy buses, the ones that catch fire,Did he mean TFL will be taking them off the road as well
ReplyDeleteWhy are we subjected to this dangerous vehicle
ReplyDeleteThe London Taxi used to be Iconic...
Now its an iconic deathtrap.
how long must we wait till this is finally sorted
Till some one dies.
TfL you are not fit for purpose and the first death will lay on your shoulders and conscience
Mason, Hendy you will be held accountable in court for the first death as this is a problem you know about and have done nothing to remedy.
Yet the LTDA have offered no support to those affected by the fires & recall from before.
ReplyDelete'its the advertising you see' comes the shocking response.
No doubt Mr Mason is already champing a the bit to recall the cabs, yet the bendy bus carries on regardless.
LTI say nothing and do even less.
What a joke! What a disgrace!
Lets make this a big problem, raise the profile of the issue and make TfL act!
ReplyDeleteThats right AS get 5,000 TXII's taken off the road, good move chaps!
HEADLINES
ReplyDeleteTAXI DRIVER, WIFE AND TWO GRAND DAUGHTERS DIE IN TAXI BLAZE
We are told this happened because drivers didn't want to make a big issue out of their faulty vehicles for fear they would lose money!
Anonymous: Is this a headline you want to see in your morning paper?
Anon is this why the UTG press have said nothing?
ReplyDeleteAre they gambling with peoples lives incase their vehicles are recalled
People like you that put money before lives make me sick
No wonder you ain't got the balls to put your name to that post
Fires In Vehicles (Taxis or otherwise) have a habit of happening... dont tell me you've never seen a burning vehicle in the street or on a motorway before, the fact that it is a "Taxi" is not pertinant..unless circumstances make it so. I have a TX1... the kind that boris & co say smoke too much..despite a £2500 Euro 3 retro conversion, & the TX2 was the euro 3 Level required then... wow what a lot of Smoke A burning one gives off!! Tut Tut TFL/PCO/Boris... you really cant make it up!!
ReplyDeleteHave any t x 4 s. Caught fire since the recall and modification.....the first tx4 I saw blow up was 3 years ago when I was waiting at the lights at Bolton st , a cab came down picadilly heading east pulled over , driver jumped out .. cab made a loud bang then cab burst in to flames , driver was lucky to get out ... We should have warning signs , if you see smoke or smell burning ( you have 3 mins before this cab self destructs).....
ReplyDeleteIf this keeps up Boris will have to keep the Firaways & TX1's on the road as the other LTI products cause too much smoke!
ReplyDeleteWill we have a minimum age limit of 15 Years?
Remember the technical 'experts' at LTPH Approve all these cabs, still TfL approved the bendy bus!
Jenny Jones must have been horrified to see all that smoke???
ReplyDeleteThe smoke given of by that cab must have been a lifetimes worth of fairways and tx1 emissions.
Not Withstanding the sad fact that this driver will sadly have to deal with the "Insurance Company"... The "Emmission Fiasco" that is going to diminish thousands of cabs from our roads when we have a world wide event 2012 Olympics, The Upshot for a TX2 driver is that his vehicles "Market Value" is somewhat better than prior to the 2012 15 year Anouncement, all the earlier Taxi's are going to be worthless... so all you fairway drivers make sure you carry a packet of sausages & a long fork...Just in Case!!
