Killer On The Knowledge: The Sequel...By Thomas the Taxi

We have now heard from a reliable source at LTPH that , unbelievably, the Home Office have decided to apply a strict interpretation of the legislation appertaining to CRB checks and have therefore advised LTPH that they shouldn't be requesting enhanced disclosures for all taxi and private hire drivers. Only taxi and private hire drivers that specifically work with children or vulnerable adults (such as on schools contracts) should be requesting enhanced checks. To read the complete response, please click here

This is completely unacceptable and comes at a time when sexual assault and rape figures are through the roof.

By removing enhanced CRB checks we will see the incidence of sexual attacks rise to an unprecedented level.
Time to get the stickers back out?
We have known for some time that these checks have not been carried out to a satisfactory standard and as a consequence, we have seen a child sexually assaulted by a council employed school run minicab driver. We are constantly being informed by the media, of violent rapes in licensed private hire vehicles, carried out by sexual predators who constantly tout for work outside clubs and bars, safe in the knowledge that enforcement is at an all time low.

These checks are the public's final safety net and were instrumental in catching the "Killer on the Knowledge" Shamsul Haque which led to two major demonstrations in September 2009, that paralysed much of north London.

The first demo was organised by the RMT and ran in parallel with an expose in the Evening Standard. After TfL refused to change its stance on the issue, a subsequent United Trade demo was organised with a threat of repeat action every week until TfL reconsidered.

We have to take a lesson from history, the trade must unite against this ill conceived action from the Home Office and take suitable action.

We have been losing the war against PH touts and the licensing authority for one reason and that's fragmentation. This has to end now if we are to turn around this dangerous decision from the Home Office.

TAXI DRIVERS MUST PUT ASIDE TRIBAL ATTITUDES AND UNITE NOW!

If you are in any trade org or Union, phone up your chairman and ask what are they going to do about this serious threat to our trades good name?

Relaxing CRB checks will lead to more rapes

The Anderson Shelter would also like to say that this situation hasn't been helped by Peter Hendy's constant denial of the rape and assault figures, saying they were the result of a militant Taxi drivers blog.

  1. Where are our trade leaders, the people that purport to represent in excess of 10,000 London cab drivers?

Would you let a totally incompetent accountant look after your accounts?

Would you trust a shyster that tells you he needs to nip upstairs for the cab fare outside a tower block?

Would you trust your trade representatives that negotiate for your future with the head of TPH, who then goes out boozing with him in their spare time?

Would you give your daughter £50 and tell her to get a mini-cab home when she is half cut before she leaves home?

I am willing to bet that 26000 cab drivers would reply 'Do I look like a mug?'

Unfortunately, the state of our trade today exists because the average cab driver couldn't pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were written on the heel!

Never mind as long as you get your money....who cares about the rapes and sexual assaults, until it's your daughter!!!!!

  2. Enhanced CRB YES.

Still does not deal with the issue of migrant labour from countries with no proper system.

Hendy apprently has spoken out for Enhanced CRB's, I wonder what he will say to item 2?

  3. This is unbelievable but inevitable as Hendy and Mason have treated the rape figures with contempt.

Now they want our help to sort out their mess
caused by their ignorance and mismanagement.

We need more Taxi drivers at Palestra not Bus drivers FFS.

  5. Get the story in the paper, don't make me laugh, haven't you been watching the news lately?

Politicians going to jail for fraud,

Bent coppers, bungs, data protection being violated widespread,

Peers and senior government officers obtaining bent visa's for their slaves.

The country flooded out with criminals from the four corners of the world.

And now The News Of The World hack into a dead teenagers phone and delete messages at the height of a police enquiry.

It would be easier to find rocking horse shit than a straight journalist, politician or policeman.

The serious crime squad at the Met are arresting and deporting approx 600 foreign criminals a month using traditional detection methods. Yet, the deaf dumb and blind wing of the Met, (STC) and its dedicated officers in fact don't arrest touts even when the the last incumbent that led them was touted openly in the street....Joe Royale!

Well, now its been established that bungs and corruption are widespread in the Met, I think a public inquiry into TfL/TPH and the Metropolitan police is more in order.

  6. What has happened since Mrs Lamplugh lobbied for regulation of Private Hire, she sung and bleated for Private Hire to be regulated........ I am appalled that women’s organisations that lobbied so hard for Private Hire legislation are so quiet today. Is it because they fully concurred with STaN as being the model that would eradicate the sexual predator…….. These so called women’s activist groups have lost touch with their feminist goals and have let the masoganist incumbents employed by TfL to facilitate the sexual abuse of men and women in the capital. A puplic inquiry is definitely required

  7. FoR months this site has been calling for an inquiry into TFL/LTPH,And maybe noe is the time to push for it,Too many things have happened and certain individuals have been allowed to get away with to much,For there not to be some sort of corruption involved.

  8. As far as I am aware,Diana Lamplugh[susies mum]nows suffers from Dementia, sorry to say,so has nothing to do with the running of the trust,So it it is now run by people who have no real personal objectives, just interested in a wage, and what Company car they get.I am sure these people get invited to lots of meetings about PHV,and the regulations,Far from me to assume but when you think a 5 course meal and fine wine in a top restaraunt,or a bit of cod and chips in the back of a cab,Its a case of dont rock the boat.

  9. Did all of the above sexual predators legally hold a Private Hire license, and for what city or town ?

  10. Glad you bought this to question.
In the last 3 years only 9 cases of detection and conviction after nearly 400 "reported" attacks.
The PCO/TfL would have us believe that the majority of offenders were unlicensed touts but this is not backed up by any evidence. (They will need to catch them first to identify their status)

Rape and crisis centers puts the figure of attacks nearer to 1000 rapes and sexual assaults as 60% of all attacks go unreported.

Of the three pictured above, all carried out attacks in London, one was a Licensed Private hire driver and the other two were unlicensed minicabs touts.
its quite hard to come up with mug shots of perpetrators when the authorities have caught so few.

With the relaxation of the CRB checks more drivers like these three will be driving, not justlicensed minicabs, but Taxis too.

  12. Absolutely right Anon:

The values of John Mason, Peter Hendy and Martin Lowe are misogynistic at best. Women's groups should be encouraged to oppose these misogynistic values and Helen Chapman should be forced to make a statement why she as a woman would support such a regime and policy that puts women in imminent danger!.........?

  13. You have left Warboys off your list... Oh sorry, he was a black cab driver. You won't mention him will you.

  14. Anon, so glad you bought up John Warboys, as his case highlights the need to keep up enhanced CRB checks.
Warboys is the one of only two convicted Taxi drivers rapists in the whole of my career as a licensed Taxi driver (some 40 years service).

That would put us firmly at the top as the safest professionals in the would. No other professional group come anywhere close to our record and its one factor that keeps us at the top as the Best (and safest) Taxi service in the world.
