| Minicab Rapist Masood Ahmed |
Unrelenting, the BBC, in reply to some of the drivers said:
Our editorial style guide says that the use of "taxi" and "cab" are both appropriate when referring to your profession. When we run stories that refer to black Taxis we make it clear they are "Hackney carriages". It is also acceptable to refer to a "minicab" as a "taxi".
Well, again the Licensed Taxi trade (Hackney carriage) would take issue with this statement.
First you are partially right in that the use of "taxi" and "cab" are both appropriate when referring to our profession (being the Licensed Taxi Trade), but not when referring to the private hire industry. Private hire drivers cannot by law refer to or advertise themselves as "Taxi drivers" or even "Cab drivers", as both these terms are reserved under the Hackney carriage Act to apply to licensed Taxi drivers only. This also applies to their vehicles which can only be referred to as Cars or minicabs.
So if your editorial style guide says otherwise, we suggest you get another guide, a correct one. I'm sure the Public Carriage Office (LTPH) would be highly delighted to consult with you on this matter to avoid insulting London's Taxi trade again.

Dear Thomas the Taxi,
Thank you for your email to the BBC News Website.
Our editorial style guide says that the use of "taxi" and "cab" are both appropriate when referring to your profession. When we run stories that refer to black Taxis we make it clear they are "Hackney carriages". It is also acceptable to refer to a "minicab" as a "taxi".
However, in this instance as there is only one reference to Ahmed's profession, we have changed "taxi driver" to "minicab driver" to clarify his job.
We always aim to be accurate in our journalism and feedback like yours is always valuable. Thank you again for getting in touch. The BBC News Website
The Anderson Shelter would like to thank everyone who joined in this campaign. This small victory has been won, but we fear if the BBC insist on insulting London's Taxi Drivers, then more militant action will be taken by drivers.

Until next time!
ReplyDeleteCan we stop blaming the UTG,everytime all you are doing is giving them Publicity,Let them keep quiet and before long they will dissapear into the background,Proven example is Griffin,HE done nothing but shove the name Addison Lee,Into peoples faces,Whilst Lewis Day,kept silent and in the background, but who is taking all his contracts,Lewis Day,see at times its better to let them dissapear up thier own arses.
ReplyDeleteConsult with LTPH? You can consult with LTPH on what ever subject you like, but they will remain silent.
ReplyDeleteWhere are the identifiers? They will never be issued as they are a diversionary campaign to keep the cab trades attention away from STaN while TPH roll it out nicely in the background. Mason knows and understands cab drivers prefer fighting each other than fighting the multi agency blind eye agenda concerning STaN.
What and when will anything be implemented from the private hire consultation?
My guess is nothing will be announced until the eve of the 2012 Olympics. At the top of the list will be many concessions that have been promised to the private hire fraternity behind closed doors.
There is much that could be done yet the United Traitor Group remain silent!
Yes, the UTG are dying and two of the three will soon disappear.
THE MAIN AGENDA THAT WILL KILL OUR TRADE IS STaN. This agenda is still alive and being worked to, regardless of all the LIES that come out of TPH
This story underlines the truth we already know. The media feel no empathy towards the victims of these assaults, they are doing nothing to protect the general public from a very serious problem that the authorities are aware of, choose to ignore and are partly responsible for.
ReplyDeleteI suppose antagonising London cabby's comes above printing the truth and the protection of the public at large.
Secondary school journalism at best!
They say he worked for a London based mini-cab office. So he must be a licensed private hire driver, licensed by that fine outfit in Blackfriars Rd, LTPH ???
No doubt there will be another 3 sickening rapes this weekend under the respectable cloak of the STaN agenda that infests the capital streets on a nightly basis, ranks and ranks and ranks of illegal minicabs plying for hire.
ReplyDeleteNow the question has to be asked again and again, why aren't the UTG challenging STaN ?
Did the UTG all ready know about STaN before it was uncovered? and kept it quiet from there members ?
Why didn't the LTDA challenge STaN in Kingston ? but they, along with Unite and the LCDC challenged it when it came to Whitcomb St?
Some may say that J. Mason has a kind of strangle hold over the UTG,some may say that he has all the evidence at his disposal that would be highly embarrassing to the UTG membership, and some may say that this is a load of toffee.
But one things for sure SOMETHING ISN'T RIGHT.
Of course the UTG knew about STaN, Austin Taxis uncovered it with Peter Rose and then took it to Grant Davis who told him to keep it schtum. He then resigned from the LCDC committee on principle.
ReplyDeleteOnly a fool would believe Oddy didn't know about it.
All 3 of the UTG groups knew full well what the STaN agenda would and is doing to the taxi trade and they have done diddly squat about it.
The only groups actively fighting STaN are the UCG with their superb United Cabbies News, and the RMT with their demos outside Palestra and Windsor House.
And of course The Anderson Shelter.
Let's look at these groups in more depth.
The 3 leaders of the UTG all have something in common...
Bob Oddy hasn't driven a cab for over 30 years and wouldn't even recognise most of our city.
Grant Davis is more interested in getting his face in the Sun newspaper.
Peter Rose would rather do weddings.
Yes they would all rather do anything than drive a cab.
Now let's look at the UCG and the RMT...
Both are run by 100% full time working cab drivers who know exactly what the problems are because they face them day in day out.
If you pay a penny of your cash to the UTG you are actually paying to destroy your job.
I left the LTDA and It's the best thing I ever did.
Be a smarter cabby, ditch the UTG!
Close, but not quite accurate. Austin Taxis resigned from the LCDC because he didn't share, trust or believe in John Masons great vision for the future of the London cab trade. He warned Grant Davis and the LCDC committee that TfL and Mason were working to a hidden agenda.
ReplyDeleteFour months later he discovered STaN and with the help of Peter Rose brought it to the attention of the cab trade.
Grant Davis was offered the newspaper exclusive on STaN, but opted not to print it for reasons better known to himself.
