More Waffle and Misinformation from the Director of LTPH

I have just read the letter sent to the new chairman of the RMT London Taxi branch by director of the LTPH John Mason on Taxi Leaks and sat there speechless at the hostile attitude of the head of our authority towards a group of ordinary working Taxi drivers who have formed themselves in to a new branch of an established Union.

LTPH Director John Mason
His letter is full of inconsistent points and misinformation, in a vain attempt to justify not meeting with this group of drivers.
In January last year I was present at a meeting with John Mason when he met a small group of drivers along with a full time union rep. At this meeting Mason promised to have regular formal and meaningful meetings with the branch, who have been ostracised by the United Trade Group.

At that time the general secretary of the LTDA, worried about falling membership numbers, became increasingly paranoid about just how many drivers were subscribing to the new RMT Taxi Branch and had even printed articles in its in house paper asking the question, just how many members do the RMT have.

It appears that after this meeting, John Mason suddenly came up with a new formula for a drivers association engagement policy. This basically preclude any new organisation from meeting the criteria as it would be an infringement of the data protection act to pass details of membership names and addresses to a third party.

It transpires that the union and associations of the United Trade Group would not have to meet this new requirement.
If they did only the LTDA would be able to consult on the trades behalf as they would be the only group with enough members to meet the requirement.
They would however be putting themselves on offer for breaching the data protection act.

But we know all this! It just filled out a bit of space on the response to the RMT chair.

What really took my breath away was the fact that John Mason has tried to justify LTPH's inaction to achieve desired results with regard to:

Not wishing to get involved with protracted correspondence with John Mason I would just like to reply to his letter and point out a few fundamental misguided inaccuracies in his reply.

  1. "Abacus, actions taken by us in light of the taxi trade concerns regarding this venue".  What action would this be? We have video evidence of the Clipboard Johnnie, touting outside the club, drivers are allowed to illegally park and in essence form an unauthorised Taxi rank.
  2.   "With regards to the Grosvenor House Hotel, we have taken considerable action to deal with concerns raised by taxi trade relating to this location, including increased enforcement of the parking restrictions utilising CCTV and we will continue to monitor the situation closely". It is obvious to the trade that these measures are not working as every time there is a function at this hotel Private hire are parked on the licensed taxi rank and are allowed to form an unauthorised rank, sometimes fed by clip board johnnies, who are allowed to tout inside the venue.
  3. "Since August 2008 590 TfL licensed drivers have had their license revoked under the “one strike and your out” policy. This really isn't good enough. The figures equate to just over 200 PHV drivers per year thats 4 a week. Now do the maths! 30 enforcement officers available, 23 on days and 7 on permanent nights, (statistic ironically taken from the PH&C news), thats 7.5 enforcement officers = 1 arrest between them per week. Its this type of inefficiency that made TOCU a laughing stock which would not be tolerated in any other area of TfL.
  4. "Although we have seen reductions in the market share of illegal minicabs and cab-related sexual assaults since this work started in 2002 we know that there is still more to do to continue to improve public safety and reduce the number of cab-related sexual offences". That is so true. In the reply Mason tries to turn around the disgraceful fact that since 2008 there has been a rise of 54% in sexual assaults including rapes in minicabs and massaged the figures to show a dramatic drop when compared to a figure taken just before minicabs were licensed. You can massage the statistics all you like john, but an incident rate of 12-13 assaults including 2-3 rapes every month is still a complete disgrace.
  5. "In conclusion I totally reject your allegation that there has been “total inaction” by TfL". Really? And we totally reject the allegation that you have done your best to keep passengers safe! In our opinion its as if TfL has been in a coma for the past ten years. The STaN agenda has led to a problem that is now so far out of hand, our licensing authority seem completely clueless to find a solution acceptable by both PH and Licensed Taxi's.
 Never Again Johnnie.
In February 2008 Windsor House was shaken to its foundations when the Taxi trade united for one afternoon over the placement of a "police protected, private hire rank" in Whitcomb Street, which had full autherisation from TfL and at that time the PCO. It took the trade three months to get its act together and after a successful demonstration that achieved large media coverage the rank was scrapped.  Then the Trade came together over the "Murderer on the knowledge". Peter Hendy swore he would never be put in this situation again and sacked PCO director "Only Black cabs are allowed to ply for hireEd Thompson!

When questioned about the concerns of the trade he told a select transport committee that "they should get out more often".

John Mason, the only job you have done well is the job you were hired to do by Peter Hendy, that being to fragment and keep fragmented the representative groups of the Taxi trade.

What do you really fear from the RMT or the UCG?

News Flash
Just read page 48 of the PHC news and it turns out John Mason quite happy to meet with the GMB union. Now under his rules of engagement the GMB would need 5% of the PH trade as members. In case you cant do the maths John thats roughly 4000 members (I dont think so).

One rule for them and one rule for us?

Waffle & misinformation! That's hostile Ed.

No decent organisation should ever sign up to John Mason's biased and no doubt politically inspired engagement policy.

JM can protest all he wants, The TRUTH is he allows UNITE there yet RMT and UCG dwarf it in size.

    How is that explained JM?

Another TfL own goal by excluding those who might hold it to account has made those in 'the tent' little more than toadies.

No wonder there is again trouble on the tube, how can you deal with people like this in a straightforwrad way?

    PROUD TO BE EXCLUDED.

THE ONLY HONOURABLE POSITION for any cab driver!

Met .Police to again licence cabs? The Transport Police?, NY TLC?, The Home Guard?

PLEASE anyone but this two faced mob.

I predict UCG will be visiting Palestra with some new toys, very soon!

  3. Mason has done nothing about touting.
Thousands of touts operate all over London with a 20,000 to 1 chance of being caught.

Women are being led from club doorways straight into unbooked licensed private hire vehicles with central locking and blacked out windows, driven by drivers who look on these women as Slags and whores
Is it any wonder that the rape figures are at an all time high

Who gives a flying f#*k what Mason says or wants. He is a nothing, a flunky to Hendy. Hendy is the one pulling the strings. Mason has no power to make decisions, he is just a bell end with a fancy title. He is there for one reason and one reason only and that is to deliver the mini cab agenda!

  6. If it helps, embarass them tell them how many members the RMT really has, its been going 2 years now, it must be more than LCDC and Unite put together and at least half that of the LTDA?

Turn it around, put it back on them, never mind the Data Protection act tell them how strong we are!

The RMT can never meet anyone who has pre conditions in any event never mind any numbers game. I assume the same with the UCG, Mason, Oddy and Hendy know this, that why the Taxi Engagement Policy is there!

Forget J Mason, He is only Hendy's tool so let's take the serious arguments beyond and above him.

    Plunk says.
But my two mates in the café 4by2 Green and lost in Taxis, that collect our lottery money for 30of us feel they should have say in the trade is being run.

Tony, am I to take it that the club are down to 30 members? You are going to struggle making the quorum at the AGM!

"4by2 Green" sounds a bit anti-Semitic to me. Are the Lcdc aware that there is a law against attacking people for their faith, sexual preference or colour? Keep digging the hole, it's getting deeper and deeper.

Like I have told you before.....If you knew better, you would do better!

  11. Can't believe this pair of pratts from the LCDC think they're funny. You just belittle all the good work that has previously been done by club members in the past.
This is an important issue where a group of your fellow drivers gave formed a representertive group and have been unfairly attacked by the licensing authority.
Private hire do not gave to conform to an engagement policy so why should the RMT and UCG
Let's have a level playing field then and make all orgs put their numbers on the table.
That would see the end of Unite and the club,
With just the RMT UCG and the LTDA meetingvthe set standard.
Let's see you pratts laugh that one off.

JOHN MASON PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY YOU CONSULT WITH THE GMB WHO DO NOT MEET YOU ENGAGEMENT QUOTA
    NOR DO UNITE

    WHY JOHN PLEASE ANSWER.

Lets put aside all the initials!

The key point is the Director of LTPH has shown himself not to be impartial and driven by polotics.

ALL cab drivers be VERY concerned about this as this man decides on all our livelihoods, He has a requirement under the law to act in a fair and reasonable way and NOT show bias.

Following his poor example we have already had trade orgs. reporting on their own members as not fit to hold a license on trumped up 'charges' because they disagree with policy!

What credibilty can he have if TfL's director behaves in a like fashion?

    WHAT HAVE WE COME TO?

  15. A lot of you may scoff at this but|
Often as I around I see sandwich board men standing around advertising such and such this way.So I got to thinking,If we set up a little fund[bucket collections]we could perhaps have a sandwich board man stand outside Windsor House with the board saying PETER HENDY.the man responsible for a 54% increase in rapes in minicabs works in this building,The same could be done at the Palestra, only with JOHN MASON.
This could be done by ex cabbies who have hit hard times,Not only would it give them a few quid. But it would make sure everyone who enters the building and passing public would see this,Also everytime the media film there it will be on full view. And the place would be covered every opening hour.It will be no different than the guy that stands at Marble Arch or the CBJs that these same people claim are not acting illegaly/

Nothing to do with disagreeing with policy
Think you need to get the facts right or find them out for yourself. ??
You might be shocked at what you find out!!!

Sandwich board man what a great idea I think it could work if not shame Mr Hendy about Sat offices and the rise in sexual attacks. Our is this going to get Mr Mason to let you round the table,as for the UCG I didn't think they had any Member because the UCG is made up from a broad spectrum of drivers from other organizations, and are not paying subs to the UCG.

Anon, the true facts are the Lcdc colluded with Unite, John Mason and TfL to have my license revoked because I was politically in all parties way. This came via an illegal complaint based on highly confidential information.

The data protection act was clearly breached by TfL and TPH are in a world of trouble!

It looks like the vast part of the Lcdc AGM is destined for Davis trying to justify being a grass!Davis and his semi-illiterate committee are a cab trade disgrace!

Now I've put my name to mine, now lets see yours, if you are brave enough. I fancy you are just another shi#tter!

What better example of a modern day politician than Johnson. A large percentage of those in this trade voted for him,and those who lived outside the GLA area actively supported him with the receipt pads etc.Their reward, contracts and favourable treatment to those who donated big bucks to his campaign and his party nationally.

Hundreds of perfectly good cabs being taken off the road, forcing drivers to fork out for new or second hand cabs.
The blatant refusal to hold to account those who are supposed to enforce the law and protect the public.

    Hendy?
A run of the mill bus garage manager who got lucky and now is a byword for incompetence.

    Mason?
A career minor civil servant, promoted way beyond his abilities, who will no doubt move (along with his sidekick Helen) after inflicting terminal damage to the London Taxi trade aided and abetted by some within this trade who should have been defending and representing our interests.Surely now the message has got home. There is no point relying on politicians and our masters to ensure the future.

Only the boys and girls who drive Taxis can do that. By merciless hounding of these jokers by whatever means, demos, drive ins, media campaigns on a regular basis.

Make life as difficult for them as they have done for us.

  22. CLUNK,
The thing is it may not get you round the table, but it will shame those that are to ask questions. The facts will be there everyday for all to see.Ideally though its the public we want asking questions. How many young girls will see it sober and think I got in one of those at the weekend,I thought as it had a license it was safe,But no,Lets see HENDY answer that,Even his yes man FERRARI,wont be able to let him wriggle from the public. And how will Johnson tell the public his man in charge MASON reckons its your own fault for being raped. You got in one.
