Letter of Concern From Knowledge student.

Dear Sir,
I have just been introduced to your website The Anderson Shelter and, being a student of the Knowledge, I am very interested to read what is being said.

I have just reached the 21’s stage of the kol and I am amazed at Mr John Mason’s quotes. “56’s are running on time and 28’s and 21’s are running at 34 days.” That is interesting as I have had to wait 41 days for my first 21 and another student, on 56’s, has just had an appearance on Monday 16 May, the very same day as Mr Mason’s comments, and was given 85 days. I would like to know where Mr Mason is getting his facts from.

So far TFL, through running late and not through me getting grade D’s of which I had two on 56’s, have cost me 83 days. That’s 83 extra days without an income, 83 extra days of sheer hard work and 83 extra days of trying to retain the Knowledge and learn even more.

On another issue regarding the KOL examiners vacancies. I contacted TFL’s human resources and explained that although I have not yet completed the KOL I would be interested in applying. Would this affect my KOL appearances etc. I was told, by email, to apply. “Not only may I be a suitable candidate by it would also show that I have a great interest in the subject in am studying.” My wife and I then spent approximately four days in completing the on line application forms and duly sent the completed documents to TFL. I was then told that would not be suitable as I did not have enough experience, or words to that effect!

The examiners have my utmost respect. They really do. They have all done the KOL, been out on mopeds in the pouring rain and freezing cold, studied for all the hour God sends, called blue book, cross sections and found thousands of points, gone on the nerve wracking appearances etc. Mr Mason. I would love to see you and your back room staff do the KOL. I really would.

Name withheld By Editor.

    John Mason on the KOL?

Before he does that he probably needs to complete the Knowledge Of Licensing, as it is abundantly clear to anyone who is not blind , stupid or hoodwinked that he and his team sure needs it!

Oh, and before the trade press and AGM's are ablaze with the news of the 'million pound note' that has by some miracle appeared for enforcement that we need to know how much TfL spend already and what on etc. etc. and what he intends to spend this 'windfall' on.

Surely not another case of Mr Mason promising 'jam tomorrow' 'its all in hand' 'we have a strategy' etc. etc.

Mr Mason took the UCG News to task saying that STaN was from the past and not the current policy and therefore any stats now mean nothing (never mind that they were TfL's own figures)

So Mr Mason what is the current policy?

My guess another year of 'Give us time'!!!!!!!!

It's all getting very repetitive John!

  5. Cabbie says, I originally applied to become a K O L examiner in the previous intake, prior to the most recent one. After the initial selection process (which I managed to get through) I was invited back by the senior K O L examiner, who at the time was Mr T. Bishop who may I add was a very pleasent gentleman. The remaining six of us were given the task of preparing a 5 min presentation on a Knowledge related subject. After (in Mr Bishops words) was the most difficult selection process he has ever faced I found I had been unsuccessful but he sent me a "hand written" letter stating that if ever a further vacancies arises I should not hesitate to re-apply. In short I did re-apply and did not even get through the initial selection which makes me think that what may have been seen fit as an examiner 5 years ago does not fit into our Mr Mason's new program on the "knowledge of London" and may I add that I smell a rat when the contract was a fixed term 2 year one (what does that tell us all about the knowledge) I think Mason, in my opinion, knows as much about the "knowledge" and the Taxi trade as I do about Brain Surgery.
