The RMT have invited talks with John Mason and Peter Hendy to discuss the 54% increase in rape and sexual assault figures, to try to find a solution to this problem.
ATTACKS:
2008...98
2009...143
2010...120
and the 50%drop in detection and conviction
CONVICTIONS:2008...6
2009...3
2010...?
Mason and Hendy have refused to meet and discus this issue and Peter Hendy has dismissed these figures as inaccurate and the product of a militant cabby's blog, even though they come from his own website. Our figures have been received by way of freedom of information requests.
The RMT London Taxi Branch, would therefore like to invite every Taxi driver irrespective of political belief to attend Palestra Building on Wednesday 25th May 2011 at mid day till 2 pm.
LTDA, LCDC, Unite, RMT, UCG and unaffiliated, all are welcome to come along.
This is an important issue and we should not let our political leaders try to push this aside as propaganda.
We believe the reason behind these attacks is the ever increasing number of PHV licenses dished out like confetti by LTPH in a bid to raise revenue. Over 70,000 PHV drivers now, which is increasing by 16,000 each year.
TfL say it would be illegal to limit PHV licenses
But when offered 50K by LTDA's Bob Oddy, they are now considered limiting suburban licenses.
One rule for them and one for us.
- PHV Licensing should be suspended until by natural wastage, it reverts back to a level similar to the Licensed Taxi Trade.
- Scrap satellite offices.
- Stop the illegal ranking outside night venues.
- Enforce the Law.
These four measures will drastically reduce the Sexual attacks.
Please support this important issue.
Other interested womens groups have been invited and may be attending.
Inaction is taken as a sign of weakness.
ReplyDeleteI am not against demos in principle, but once again we are demonstrating during the day, about a problem thats happening at night.
ReplyDeleteI strongly feel that the only way we will get the problem over is by hitting the bars/clubs that allow this and the only way to do that is by hitting thier takings.Remember the people we need to ask questions are the public,
And the only way we can do that is by informing them what they may be getting into when they leave these clubs/bars.and that can only be done when thier stone cold sober on thier way to a night out.Not when they are at work as quite frankly it will just go over thier heads.Plant the seeds and let them grow whilst they they are in the clubs.Let them think will I be getting home safely,If not why?.And why is the Mayor allowing this to happen.
Peter hendy and John mason should be made to watch the last 10 minutes of casualty on BBC 1 last night to see a demonstration of a sexual attack scared the Life out of my wife and two daughters.check it out on the I player..
ReplyDeleteAnon.
ReplyDeleteI agree BUT the people in Palestra are realy around after 5 p.m. unless someone is taking them down the chippy or they have the opportunity to annouce to the gullible that they are sorting everything out but it's always tomorrow.
There WILL be some night action soon!
If you really want to get the message across to the travelling public, put some big ads in newspapers and supply flyers for Cabbie's to put in their cabs.

ReplyDeleteThis demo has a specific target, being the female staff that work along side the men who are seen as impotent in enforcing safe travel at night. We want the staff at Palestra to see the weakness of character in these men.

Yes, but we must show respect, many of these people are just employees that turn up for work, day in day out. It's the decision makers, career ruinors and life destroyers that are our target!
Be respectful, many of these people will be made redundant soon. They have been made to re-apply for their positions, abused by this loophole then laid off!
I've just read united Cabbies news.
ReplyDeleteAbsolute disgrace what TfL are doing to us.
I will be at the demo 100% now I know!
See you there guys.
