Why was it announced, on LBC that Addison Lee had won a contract to supply vehicles and use the special lanes at the 2012 Olympics
Not a rumor, a statement from Nick Ferrari on his LBC radio show.
Nick Ferrari said:
"Now this is for the delegates, and I think for some of the competitors as well isn't it? But well lets name it, it’s Addison Lee. I think it’s the biggest company probably in the country and they have got the contract to take judges and competitors."
Boris did not deny this. For a Transcript of the Call, Click here.
The Caller then asked if he picked up a competitor from Paddington Station, would he be able to use the fast track lanes, to which Boris answered

Boris:
One interesting point in this call was that Boris announced 33,000 Licensed Taxis in London. How can we take any of his statistics seriously when he can suddenly add 30% more taxis than there are.
Why then, did Addison Lee, through their Twitter account, announce straight after the Bojo interview that they hadn’t tendered for or received such a contract?
But Boris failed to come back to the Addison Lee issue."Ray I think that’s fairly unlikely to happen. The competitors basically are going to be moved from the Olympic village where they will be staying, to their events or their places of training, with the team and with their coaches. We want to be able to have the Olympic Route Network, which will be much much smaller, let me repeat this, will be much much smaller than the Olympic Route Network was in Beijing."

Can’t think what these two important statements mean....Read on.
Shelter Talk:
They could never supply the vehicles or the drivers!
Addi Lee has bought out smaller PH firms in the past. So they have a wealth of man power at their disposal.
Shelter Talk:
But I thought BMW had the contract to supply the cars.
If BMW are supplying the cars someone has to supply the drivers.
He can and will!
In 2012, when the games are on London will be in Gridlock for best part of the day and most of the evenings as day drivers try to recoup lost income by working longer in to the night. This doesn't just affect Taxis.
There will be many of the 80,000 Ph drivers only too pleased to drive new BMW's in the special lanes.
Allegedly, Boris was put on the spot yesterday and didn't realise the tender hadn't gone in yet.
Their is nothing we can do about this, as it seems by Bojo's statement, it has already been sanctioned by TfL (don't we know some one on that Board?)
What we have to worry about is how this affects us after the Olympics.
The UTG's joint ranks committee and the Surface Transport committee have been in discussion with the affected parties, ie PH and the Licensed Taxi trade, with an eye on implementing what they are calling "Executive Private Hire Ranks". Namely, marshalled private hire Ranks to be used by more upmarket firms such as Addison Lee, West one and Lewis Day. These ranks where cars will be ready for immediate hire, will probably be situated at top end hotels, mainline stations and at week ends beside booths in the West End . It is believed that permits will have to be purchased by the driver to work from these marshaled ranks.
What then, the airport?
Shelter Talk:
They could never take us out of the airport, it will never happen!
Just like private hire licensing, private hire marshaled ranks and private hire liveries, it can happen quite easily and has happened in many provincial airports, Click here for the latest:
I have been mentioning these so called PH golden ranks for sometime now, but no one seems to be taking any notice.
Its just like when I protested over the shared taxi rank space at kings cross bridge. I said it would lead to PH ranking outside venues all over London . I was told by Oddy and others, I was being alarmist!
Whitcomb Street Private Hire Rank:
The story first broke exclusively on the Anderson Shelter Wednesday, 26th, November, 2008: Click Here, was a foot in the water by TfL and Westminster Council to try and judge the response from the Licensed Taxi Trade. The trade united which bought about the mass demo in February 2009.
TfL shook to its foundations and was petrified that the trade could actually come together in this way.
And so, a specialist was bought in to segregate the different faction of the trade and keep them segregated. Thats the story so far!
The only ace we have left up our sleeve, is the Olympic games and TfL are waiting with baited breath to see if we will plan anything.
But do you want to go that far to save your job, your trade, your living.

From what was said recently,Mercedes were going to supply the cars, and the drivers were being taken from the pool of volunteers.Which makes more sense. But if Boris made this statement what worries me more is just how out of touch he is with whats really happening at City Hall.We all know Boris is a bumbling fool,But does he really know what is happening,Is he even aware of the 54% increase in rapes etc, come to that Boris lives in Islington, one of the touting hotspots of this city,Is he even aware PHVs are not allowed to pick up off the street.Or does he just believe whatever HENDY tells him.
ReplyDelete54% Increase how dare you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a complete pack of lies and an complete distortion of the figures TfL & the Met have published, especially since we moved the dates of how they are calculated.
It is complete scaremongering from militant cab drivers, The real figure is more like 51% once adjusted so what is everyone concerned about?
A paltry 50% or so increase in sexual assualts!
Small beer.
No security risk there then?????????
ReplyDeleteMark
Boris and add lee are now clearly so close that he knows they are going to win tenders before addlee even submit the paper work.
ReplyDeleteIt must be nice to have friends in high places.
mbc
Lets just hope those pesky TAXI drivers are not planning something,To stop people getting to the opening ceromony,
ReplyDeleteJust a little food for thought,So who do you think should drive them, minding the eyes of the world will be on us.The Famous London Taxi Driver.complete with vest, shorts, flip flops, and not forgetting the Baseball cap the wrong way round.
ReplyDeleteperhaps if our trade organisations had donated to the boris campaign fund it might of been us instead of addy lee, but no surely that wouldnt of had anything to do with it,that would be immoral wouldnt it?
ReplyDeletesee what a little donation does?
ReplyDeletein effect we don't actually know if AL do indeed have the contract, only what the author of the site is assuming.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't do any of us any favours to work on assumptions when we then go on to quote these "facts" to politicos; trade reps etc. It makes us look amateur!
Work on facts.
Just wondering once the main event is over, and we come to the Paralympics, will TFL announce an amazing u turn and allow TAXIS in these lanes.I suggest if they do we all refuse to take jobs there.Citing the one hour rule,
ReplyDeleteIn effect Street Urchin, it doesn't matter if AL have a contract or not. The article was posted to show the utter ignorance Boris has of our trade.
ReplyDeleteThis man is making life changing amendments to our modus operandi and has just made an order that will see 3750 Taxis taken out of service by the end of next year. Does he realise that we haven't got 33,000 taxis and this is going to create a vast shortage which the two major suppliers of Taxi will be unable to fill.
Is his emission figures based on 33,000
The massive 20% figure of Taxi emissions on his chart are no more than guess work as he has no idea of the total fuel used by cabs without which true figure can not be calculated.
SU, there are no assumptions in this post just a statement of facts about a radio broadcast that took place in the week, kindly supplied in the form of a transcript by John Mason.
This blog has no political affiliation, we only have an allegiance to the taxi trade as a whole, not to the tribal values currently shown by the trades representative groups
You say work on facts, other than post exactly what was said by the Caller, Nick Ferrari and Boris there are no more facts.
got to agree 100% about the clowns ignorance of our trade!
ReplyDeleteSadly he's dictated to by the anti taxi "kens man" Hendy and whilst that idiot is there we don't stand a chance.
