In the light of the recent unsubstantiated assault on yellow badges by the LCDC and the prospect of every licensed Taxi driver YB/GB soon to be forced to display ID stickers, should this statement be taken as a threat or a promise?
If a promise, should it then be taken in the same vein as the "One strike and your out" promise?
The Anderson Shelters own Wongo writes:
We need to go back a bit here.
- The Yellow Badge exists because Green Badge Drivers did not service the work in the suburbs.
- There used to be active small radio circuits that ComCab (LTDA) bought out and deliberately lost all the cash work so the Taxicard could be serviced (and in the process sold the suburban radio premisses to unlicensed mini cab company).
- The shortage of work in the suburbs will NOT be solved by this move, what the YB Trade need to do is WIN back the work lost to PHV. It could destroy even more if not carefully managed.
- Once someone uses a minicab and gets a reasonable service, THEY (PH) will come in to central and take them back to wherever. So that's another loss to the GB and YB trade. That's why we need to keep all the work!
- I would say that any TfL action would not stand a challenge as it's a legal right to apply.
- Usual desperate tosh from Woodfield Road, defeat dressed as victory! Have they not endorsed the minicab rank at Kingston, with the minicab's being marshaled by an ex LTDA exec. member just like O2.
All that said, it's a difficult issue to resolve, my own view is:
The YB should be 'wound down' and only the GB offered. Existing YB's can go onto 28's if they want to do the GB, if they put in a poor appearance then back to 56. If they do not want to do the GB then they should get no mercy if caught 'offside;' out of sector.
The licensing authority should promote taxi use as part of integrated public transport!
Editorial Comment:
It is our belief that the problems in London, central and suburban, have been caused by the over-issuing of Private Hire licenses, in a bid to raise revenue by TfL. £140m for bikes, £56m for cable car.
The answer (IMHO) would be;
- Stop issuing PH licenses
- Enforce the one strike and your out program, as promised.
- Scrap satellite operating centres.
- Stop PH vehicles ranking (illegally) outside venues.
- Scrap marshaled PH ranks in the suburbs.
- Stop PH parking on Licensed Taxi ranks
- Stop putting lives at risk by giving the accounts for venerable passenger to unchecked minicab firms.Give the Taxicard account back to Wheelchair accessible Licensed Taxis
- Enforce the law properly, not just when it suits TfL.
#TfLshame
Private hire in London is awash with sexual predators and terrorist activists. The CRB checks system if flawed and licensing administration is in a complete mess.

TfL are not fit to be a Licensing authority, they are staffed mainly by officers who have come from a bus company background. They have no idea of how our trade works and have proved time and time again incapable of understanding our problems.

It seems that Mr Mason is considering a lot of things!
ReplyDeleteHere's one that needs to be top of the list.
RESIGNATION........

ReplyDeleteI have been saying this, for over 20 years. taxi drivers are starting to have an awakening & beginning to realised they have been swindled left, right & centre & they let it happen!
ReplyDeleteThe fact that Drivers are finally awakening through access to information now being made available, can much be attributed to the efforts of the United Cabbies News Team & the LTDF!
If you're not already a UCG Member, come & join us!
With your support, I believe we can & will ensure a future prosperous Taxi Trade for all at present & those that proceed us!
Membership is free, what're you waiting for?
It doesn't matter if you're already in a Trade Organisation or whether you hold a Green or Yellow Badge,
all are welcome!
The Alarm Bell has been ringing for ages.
Instead of a cap on YB we should have a cap on our so called business leaders as not one of them have the vision, drive or fight to win back the millions lost in revenue in just this recession!!!
ReplyDeleteThe only way we win our battles is by being better and smarter than our competition and as we stand at the moment we lose in every single area
The one things that sets us apart from our competition is our strength of character to complete the knowledge.
ReplyDeleteCRB checks have failed to net the sexual predators of our competitors but has done an unusual competent job with Licensed Taxi drivers.
Why?
Mason didn't come from a bus background. But with a bit of luck he may be leaving on one soon.
ReplyDeleteAs my dad used to say, there is a bus leaving soon son, be on it.

ReplyDeleteHeard a rumour that PCO are about to drop the I'D badges as a group of drivers have threatened to take PCO to court, something TfL can't afford.
ReplyDeleteBeen told Hendy has told them to drop it.
I think we all know there are a few YBs that work out thier sectors,Not as many as is made out,But still a few.And we are all aware of the saying sort your own trade out, before you start on others.Well it seems to me as soon as something is done to do that,ie,Identifiers we are all up in arms.
ReplyDeleteOld sayings are not going to save our trade. We have been sorting our selves out for thirty years and while we have been distracted, PH has moved in on us. While our drivers joined representertive groups, paying them handsomely to look after our interests, PH moved in on us. While we argue and try to "sort out our own trade first" PH have moved in on us. ID badges are a distraction and While we are distracted PH will roll over us.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure?
ReplyDeleteScabs are stripping us of our work and you want to sort out our own first?
No wonder we are in the shit with twats like you leaving posts about sorting out our own.
So what do you suggest, we keep paying Oddy and Davis to consult on sorting out our own?
Every night, there is a sea of orange lights riding round and round in circles because the scabs are parked outside every place of entertainment, sitting there laughing at us and taking the work from under our noses. Yes let's all go round the Cumberland Hotel and block in the two taxis hanging up and leave the thousands of scabs stealing our work. FFS wake up man.
Are you mad? We are dying in the suburbs with driver numbers uo 40% in the past 10 years. What other business recruits during a recession?
ReplyDeleteStop issuing badges, moratorium now!
divide and rule - that's their game and the best bit............
ReplyDeleteoddy and co are assisting them!
Can someone from the LTDA with balls please stand up to the degenerate and get him out before we no longer have a trade ?
That's the difference between a trade Paper and a blog, you get feedback almost instantly.
ReplyDeleteSuburban YB drivers should decide what they want for themselves not Mason or worst, Oddy.
Even we GB drivers, who work in tangent with our colleges don't know what is best for them, so how can Mason.
IMHO I think a committee of suburban drivers from all sectors should be invited to Palestra to debate this issue with LTPH
Our future, should not be dictated by people who have never driven a cab, have no knowledge of our trade, or even worse, ex Taxi drivers who have been desk bound for the last 20 years.
Our future has to be placed in the hands of working taxi drivers, drivers with plenty of experience, drivers who's main income comes from driving a taxi for a living.
To Anon,8
ReplyDeleteYou have been quick to label people as twats, what you have not done is come up with any ideas of tackling the problems we face,Not once did the poster suggest we keep paying ODDY,etc, So come on what you suggest we do.
No even better tell us what you have done,Have you lobbied your MP,Have you sent a complaint to TPHL,Have you complained to the Mayor, about lack of police action.Probaly not,So dont go calling people twats, until you can say YOU have done something personaly to help this trade
Another smoke & mirrors job from the palace of varieties that are Palestra and Woodfield Road.
ReplyDeleteThe 'cap' will only apply (if every implemented) on new applicants, so all those on the various YB sectors KoL will still come into the trade so any effect will take ten years to make a difference.
Dealing with illegal ranking by PHV's and the provision of more rank space at shopping centres, clubs etc. etc. as well as carding up, simple tweet a local cab etc. WILL make a difference.
PHV Numbers are the issue here.
It is THAT explosion that causes all of us hardship.
Here's the script:
Tfl:
'Sorry Mr Applicant, full up for YB's at Kingston'
Applicant:
'What about PHV? Is there any limit?'
TfL:
'Not at all, Here's the form, no knowledge test and you can put on the station after the Taxi's have been moved off and the LTDA approved PHV Rank opens for the busy times'.
As someone once said:
You could not make it up!!!!!!!!!!
Put a cap on yellow now,but more so on private hire tfl cant enforce the laws at the moment so issuing more licenses is not the answer, the ltda under com cab destroyed suburban circuits so we need some brave business minded yellow badges to start local circuits again, lets hope it can be done.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion we must not turn inwards at this stage YB working out of sector is not the end of the world although it requires some action.
ReplyDeleteLet us not loose sight of the real issues Touting Lack of Enforcement.
No commitment from TFL and those charged with the regulation and safe transporting of the general public. The answer lies with us the drivers we are the only people that can save this trade. If you are a member of an organisation that has done nothing for years go to the meetings and have your say better still stand against these people push them out. Bloging is a great way to communicate and aquire information but the only way that this Trade will survive is by the actions of the united Taxi Driver. Michael B
