The Knowledge or lack of it? By PBCab.

This week I along with a colleague, visited a well known Knowledge School for a question & answer session for the RMT Taxi Branch.

The students (boys & Girls from a broad section of society) asked some interesting and searching questions about the RMT and the 'State of the Trade' in general.
They, just like the working driver today have grave concerns about "Satellite Offices" and the illegal ranks outside every club & bar from Romford to Kingston and the impossibilty of this activity ever being effectively policed without an outright ban on satellite offices & CBJ.

This and many other matters were discussed in a friendly and hospitable manner. Thanks guys!

In addition, it seems from reports to us that TfL are administering the KoL in what only can be described as complete incompetence and dare we say indifference:

The reference number for applying is on the envelope (yes the bit everyone throws away) and not on the form causing confusion. TfL staff are refusing to discuss the application without the application number in some kind of Ealing Comedy scenario.
It is now taking an average of 44 months for the Green Badge, due to ever longer appointment system.
Even when at the end, after the suburbs, drive and rec. it still takes weeks to actually get your hands on the coveted Badge

It is rumoured that the KoL examiners are as exasperated as the students with the TfL Hierarchy on all these matters, yet their complaints are seemingly treated with the same disdain as issues from the cab trade in general.

It would seem to the informed observer, that TfL desires the world famous KoL to 'whither on the vine' and remove yet another barrier in the race to the bottom.

Yes, another battle I am afraid, but we owe it to ourselves and those hard working people on the Kol (it was us once remember) to win.

The Future is Unwritten, Let's write it ourselves!

Death by thousand cuts! Little by Little, Drip by Drip.

The London Taxi Trade betrayed by a sub standard licensing authority and many years of 'Yes Guv' representation from people only looking to get off the cab.

    LIONS LED BY DONKEYS!

    TIME TO BITE BACK!

  3. It would seem that drivers, especially night drivers are calling for radical action.
Touting is at an all time high, never seen before on this scale.
Our so called leaders (Day Men) are doing nothing about this threat to our lively hood.
The drivers are calling out for action now, not next month, next year or after the Olympics, we need it now.

I am lead to believe the RMT and the UCG have both been approached by a breakaway group from the club, lead by a prominent committee member.
    (cant wait for the AGM)
LTDA members are no longer sticking their heads in the sand and are leaving in droves, they all want strong leadership..

Takes the reins guys and lets see what your made of

Youv'e talked a good fight so lets be aving it now. Or go back to your keyboards and let the collaborators carry on selling us out for stand down pay.

One of the things that was meant to be up for discussion in the infamous October meeting was the unnecessary length of time students are taking to complete the knowledge due to the shortage of examiners and the sheer incompetence of the system. Unfortunately the cab trade paper magnate John Mason has managed to silence this story too!

  5. Dave,
Theres the problem, the night men want the day men to take action,How about the night men giving it a go.Sorry but the only thing that makes the powers to be take any notice is money. This was proven when the congestion charge times were changed,to accomadate the Theatres,We are in a position to make sure the west end is empty every night. All we have to do is form a ring around it.
Yes it will affect and hurt the public,But I feel the time has come to take the gloves off,After all do those skateboarders or cyclists care, and thier not even demonstrating,
Plus since the killer on the knowledge demo,Where drivers were out thier cabs explaining to the public that it was not about money, more about public safety, thier safety,
And for the first time we actually got the public behind us,and we all know how quickly things changed, maybe thats the way to go.
No matter if your a day man or night man,we have one thing in common,we are Taxi Drivers. And unless we work together we really are finished. So yeah lets have some more demos, but at night as well as day.

  6. Its not the trade papers we need, they are only read by drivers to pass the time,And Al Frescos relations,to see how the familys doing.
What we need is a major player to get involved,David Cameron is on about apprenteships at the moment,And what is the knowledge,if its not a self funded apprenteship. What we need to be asking is.If they treat people that are prepared to fund thier own apprenteship. How they intend to make it work, for people that dont.

  11. Today as I was driving along I noticed 2 things,All the new Addison Lee motors,"60"reg have blacked out windows,Obviously a little pop at us and the no to blacked out windows campaign.
Then I noticed the name in the back window has been moved up,to take up the whole of the back window,No big deal on its own,in fact very petty,Except for the fact Addison Lee have already been told about the back window signage.yet have ignored it,
So my question really has to be what purpose does the TPH,have.
