"Bikers' Triumph"..... By Kevin Portch.

The NoToMob bikers who supported the UCG Oxford Street demo have been told by Kevin Goad, head of Parking Enforcement at Westminster Council, that CCTV camera cars will no longer be used at a number of sites across the borough because of potentially illegal signage.

The bikers' campaign started because WCC wanted to charge £1 a day for parking their bikes in town. Lots of people say "It's only a quid, why not just pay it?". The answer is that if you agree to it in principle, then you can't moan when it goes up to £1 an hour, or £5 an hour or who knows what. That is why the bikers have taken this to the High Court, and are now appealing the decision that went against them on that first occassion. All done through donations from their runs, rallies and demonstrations.

The demo on Sunday which slowly made its way through Westminster for the best part of 2 hours with around 120 bikes is the second in a trilogy of rides, has hopefully raised more funds to help their cause, as well as getting plenty of support and raising awareness of what councils are getting away with without being challenged.

These guys are so well organised they have their own marshalls, their own ambulance at the back of the pack in case of any injuries to bikers or bystanders. Police weren't needed because they are aware of the peaceful nature of the protest.

The Wednesday morning and evening protests aren't getting much media attention, other than perhaps a "The bikers are at it again" mention on the London Traffic News. However, they won't go away. They are determined to fight on and on. More power to them.

That power could come from us, London's cab trade. What they are doing is not just for bikes. Challenging road signage is something our ranks and highways people should be on top of instantly. We all need to be questioning all of our trade reps (regardless of which organisation) as to why they weren't actioning these issues. So the bikers are helping us and every other motorist in London... FOR FREE.

We can help.

Support their demos.

Help their fighting fund.

Let them know if you see camera cars working the streets.

If a few bikes battling over £1 a day can have an effect, imagine what 25000 cab drivers could do. We have power, let's start to use it.

Thanks for coming along yesterday Kevin. A great day and as a member of the NoToMob and a K boy, I agree with every word you have written!

NoToMob is NOT just about bikers. It`s about every single person that gets rinsed by Councils, not just Westminster. Follow NoToMob.co.uk as other councils are about to learn who we all are!!!!

  2. By challenging the £1 a day charge the bikers are challenging the prinicple of a charge.

By accepting the 15 year age limit on taxis the UTG have accepted the principle of an age limit. This has given the authorities a nod of approval to lower the age limit to whatever whenever they like.

Support the legal challenge being mounted by Alan Fleming before it's too late.

These people put us to shame!

The leadership of the cab trade in the guise of the UTG has been hijacked by those who are only concerned with themselves.

  5. Well done also to the RMT ranks and highways who also were on the case

Does Masset ever get out of woodfield road
Why haven't the joint ranks committee been involved in anything productive?

Still think your £16 a month is money well spent?

The RMT are the only trade group that are actively involved in trade issues.
The others just wait for something to happen and then claim the glory

  6. The joint ranks committee involved in any thing productive. Well, what's happened to our rank in Charing Cross Road, this has now turned into a private hire marshalled pick up point (as pointed out in STaN pg 91 and 93).

Can you not see what's going on here, if we accept minicabs on our rank and do not put up a fight we are seen as weak and taken as dare I say, for mugs no offence intended but that's how we look to the powers that be.

Now either the joint ranks committee are working for us, or they are not?

Why,Why,Why are minicabs on a Taxi rank plying for hire, denying us a living, the answer to all you passionate Taxi Cab drivers is contained in STaN.

Our masters at Palestra want STaN buried for good, and if no one raises STaN, then the subject will go cold and die and be forgotten for ever more.

Phone your trade rep and ask them about STaN the hidden agenda, and if they say in a blank way what's STaN, you've been had dear friend?

    Ranks Committee, another joke!

Remember the photo opp. ouside the Law Courst with Mason & Low and the rest ranks.

What happened there and at Ciprianis and many others?

Meanwhile ranks spaces being revoked all over. Regent Street SW1 the latest.
(No such place as Lower Regent Street).

    UTG Members note:
All meetings are attended on stand down pay that YOU fund. Obviously you are more than happy!!!
