Quotes from the LTDF Taxi Forum:
Westminster City Council,
Mate of mine asked a Westminster Traffic Warden where he could park his family car, the Warden said 'Just stick it there on the taxi rank, (Great Marlborough Street) we've been told not to ticket anyone who parks on Taxi Ranks. He left it there for a few hours last week, and he was right, no ticket.
The father of a friend of mine, who is also a Licensed Taxi Driver had a delivery in Connaught Street, W2. He parked his cab on a single yellow line and ran into a shop to get his delivery signed for. When he came out he found a Westminster traffic warden had given him a ticket. When he inquired why, the warden explained that he had been told by his superiors to give private hire vehicles up to 10 minutes grace, but Taxis should be ticketed straight away.
He said this in the presence of a Police officer who was guarding the back entrance to Tony Blaire's House.
Westminster City Council,
Victoria St, SW1
Friday 5th November at 6.30pm
STOP THE PERSECUTION OF TAXIS BY WESTMINSTER CITY COUNCIL!!!
The UCG in conjunction with the Bikers are staging a Mass Drive-In Demo outside the offices of Martin Low and WCC in protest against Taxis being targetted whilst Private Hire do whatever they like.
THIS IS TOTALLY OUT OF ORDER!!!
So now its your turn, yes you!!! The drivers who have sent in emails and comments, complaining about the bias treatment suffered at the hands of Westminster Parking Services.
You have been shown the evidence, of the victimisation of Licensed Taxi drivers by the CCTV camera operators. You have seen the reluctance of Westminster's traffic wardens, to enforce restrictions, when it comes to contraventions committed by Private hire drivers.
All this, with a two minute boarding and dropping time limit, imposed by this council in the face of PCO notice 44/06, which stated that drivers should be given "As long as it takes" to Pick up or drop off.
So now its all up to you.
So now its all up to you.
No one else is going to do this for you.
We can put a stop to this, and if we all stand together we will.
Please support this action because the next parking ticket, could be yours.
Taxis will be meeting in Vincent Sq at 6pm.

So please, come along and join us.

Six thirty on a Friday, there will only be the security staff in the building,so what's the point?

Under normal circumstances you would be right. This day and time has been cearfully chosen by the No to bike parking tax lobby and they have invited taxi drivers who feel grieved by the actions of Westminster to join them. For more information about this action, please see the blogs if the NTBPT group and the UCG. Links are available in the right side panel. Jason Byrne
ReplyDeleteWhy do we have to wait for the Bikers? they have there issues we have ours! cant we start at 5 when it will cause total mayhem and allow the bikes to carry on extending the madness, going in at 6.30 is only playing into the councils hands, it seems to me that by doing it at 6.30 is doing them a bloody favour!!! You all know how the French perform! they only consider what they want and go for it! for months now since the last Demo there has been no reel pressure put on these B------ds, so how about a rethink, once or twice a week for an hour or so at the right time will get something done once and for all!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't you bring that up at the UCG meetings.
ReplyDeleteBit late now to change the details.
Agree with anon 2,our situation is completely seperate to the bikers, they want free parking,we want the laws enforced,How will this affect M LOW,sitting indoors watching it on telly
ReplyDeleteMark etc.
ReplyDeleteThe point is getting the message out to the public that the motorist (Bikers, Us) are sick and tired of being milked by TfL and Westminster.
Take the point about Friday Night but it was called by another organisation, The press attended and there were councillors in City Hall.
For those who think Martin Low (the Highways Officer of WCC) has any say at WCC, think again, It's the councillors who call the shots!
That why he is sent to deal with the cab trade, we are allowed only to speak to office boys, Same at Palestra, John Mason is Hendy's Mouthpiece and thats it!
Our campaigning on all Taxi matters should be targetted at Boris and The GLA, not pen pushers!
NO MORE CONTEMPT FROM THEM.
