TfL Show Scant Regard Again at Padders.... By Thomas the taxi.

This week, has been one of the most insulting weeks the London Taxi trade has had to endure for many years. It started with a north London minicab outfit openly touting on the Licensed Taxi Rank outside the Grosvenor House Hotel, with an army of marshals and security guards. The ensuing complaints were rebuked by the head of T&PH, who told the trade that after talking to a driver, who happened to turn up when it was all over, nothing illegal had taken place, In-spite of 50-60 witnesses who worked the rank most of the evening.

Then it was announced that the feeder rank at Paddington Station, without consultation with any representative trade org, would be given over to London Bendy Buses on a request from Westminster City Council.

Then we heard that the Secretary of State for Transport would be scrapping the M4 Bus Lane without consulting any of the user groups.

Just when you thought the insults had stopped, in the middle of a tube strike, when thousands of extra passengers were arriving from Hearthrow, London Buses decided to park Bendy Buses on the Rank at Paddington. Amid the utter confusion that ensured, it made the Taxi Rank look over subscribed and many drivers drove past without putting on. This added to the extremely long wait for tired passengers arriving from the airport.

Amongst the confusion, drivers in TfL licensed PH Vehicles were seen to be going up and down the long line of waiting passengers cherry picking jobs. When approach by Taxi drivers they became violent.
Phone calls were made by taxi drivers to the Transport Police who chose not to attend the station.

All this, has followed a week when TfL finally admitted that serious sexual assaults, including rapes, in licensed and unlicensed minicab's, was completely out of control.
A week when John Mason said he had no money to enforce our Taxi ranks that are being taken over and used as free, Private hire parking spaces.
No budget for enforcement, but plenty of money for overtime to check badge and bills in Waterloo, Chelsea Bridge and Bayswater Road.

The one thing that has been missing this week.
Where is our man on the board of TfL, who is supposed to represent the whole Trade?

Safer Travel at night.... You got to be kidding John.

  6. I am sure you guys will correct me if i am wrong, but when minicabs were first licensed, was it not decided that those that could prove they were driving a minicab were given Grandfathers rights to get a license,Then anyone who wished to become a minicab driver would have to pass a small topographical test, and prove they had a command of the English Language, what happend?Because up to know its fill in a form or get someone else to do it and away you go,Maybe if the minicab driver had to put a little work into it,he may be more reluctant to lose it,Oh but i forgot, half of them would not be able to pass,so less money for TFL,....GARYS

  7. So Hendy has decided to give his beloved buses the inside lane of the taxi rank over to bendy buses,Well its time to show him exactly what a idiot he really is,Now as far as i am aware the first train is around 5 am,the time the rank comes back to us,now wouldnt it be strange if suddenly drivers decided to start an hour earlier,To have a coffee and a read of the paper RESULT...the buses are stuck on the inside and cabs ar legally ranked on the outside, when they should be picking people up,
