An unpopular bus lane on a busy motorway in London, introduced by former Transport Secretary John Prescott in 1999, is to be scrapped, it has been revealed.
Current Transport Secretary Philip Hammond will announce on Monday that the 3.5 mile-long lane on a London-bound section of the M4 will be suspended from December 24 until the London Olympics start in July 2012.
Mr Hammond will say that, after the Olympics, he plans to scrap the lane permanently.
Editorial comment;
So what next?
Taxi ranks seen as unfair by Mr Griffin, so we will scrap them too?
PHV's parking on Taxi ranks, unable to enforce, Lets make it legal?
Addison Lee ranking at Hotels, nothing wrong says Mason!
Where will this stupidity end?

It is wrong and also ilegal ,Why does the LCDC seem to think its ok ? After all if a yellow badge was picking up a booking on com cab they would have a baby ? why why why i wonder ...they wanted a disc so they can discriminate the yellow badge driver but are not botherd about add lee mmmm !
ReplyDeleteCheer up taxi drivers
ReplyDeleteI think J. Griffin deserve a big thanks
Your fare from LHR to London will increase!!!
Look at it from different angle!!!!!
Now, (work), smile, and be happy
raise your glasses to The emperor GRIFFIN
To Anon 2,you obviously work for Griffin, your right our fares from LHR to london will increase,But your pittance you get off Griffin wont, and now you will have all those real taxi drivers holding you up even more,Making it take you even longer to get back into London,to get another job,OH MY your right we get richer you poor sods get poorer,So i agree lets raise a glass to GRIFFIN,Because remember people that ride in taxis, dont use minicabs, they quite rightly see you as a second class form of transport,And those that do defect to you will soon realise addi/lee are in fact dearer,so lets raise two glasses
ReplyDeleteMy question is who actually wins here,Not the travelling public from H/ROW,and if transport studies are to be believed,Not the motorists as its been proven it actually cuts journey times,Not the insurance companies,as again its been proven there has been far less accidents where the M4 meets the elevated,Go back to when there was no buslane, the accidents were nearly everyday, and there was no health and safety then to shut the road for the slightest reason,The only people i can see that have gained anything from this are the goverment,by announcing it on the day, they increased fuel duty,
ReplyDeleteTo anon 2,---your pratt griffin started this trying to be big and clever-- thinking well they let the bikes in we will be next,so telling his low paid clowns to go in the bus lane as you are taxis as well.
ReplyDeleteWell after so many of you have nearly caused accidents with us; the legal users of this lane i think griffin has shot his self in the foot, one mighty own goal, lets see if he has any bottle to use the bus lanes in town, dont think so,or will bribery work with donations??????
colinthecabby.
An excellent piece from John Kennedy on R4 (Millions of listeners) think this is what's called a mixed blessing!
ReplyDeleteThe winner clearly is the HEX.
What can Griffin say: Cabs are just as slow as our cars! Please book us.
It does probably fata damage the access to bus lanes PHV campiagn.
Proves once again that despite the PR, The UTG have no more information or 'insider' knowledge than you, me or my mum.
The Paddington Rank Issue clearly shows that, Mason and the UTG just ignored by Westminster and now by the DfT on this.
Top Tip:
Do not Keep supporting them with your money, Me I have joined an organisation with some strength of character.
It made me smile to see GRIFFIN saying how much benefit the buslane was to get people into London,If he had not ordered his drivers to use the lane illegaly, then the lane would not have been brought to the medias attention so much,And why should he be asked what he thinks anyway,All he has is a MINICAB firm and a big mouth,Something he dont want the public to know, even on the "secret millionaire"he claimed to own a TAXI firm,Well Johnny Boy look where your big mouth has got you,How many of your drivers will want to sit in all that traffic, for the few pence you pay them,So i suppose that means even more of them will have to start touting,I mean better knocking out your vehicles than thier own,
ReplyDeleteI for one have had it with the LCDC. The club sticker has gone from the back of my cab and I wont be renewing my membership subscription. I cant see much difference between the Dial a Cab BoM and those running the club and I have had enough of the arrogance and treachery they have shown towards the members.
ReplyDeleteWell said Mr Kennedy, get this campaign started and the UCG will be right behind you.
ReplyDeleteDesite all his £££ Griffin wants the one thing he aint got so bad!
ReplyDeleteThat old metal badge round the Gregory!
No wonder he hates us!
Good words fron Kennedy though.
The other trade 'spokesmen' on local radio ststions seemed very wary of saying anything that the puppetmaster would disagree with!
As ever late to the party!
Come on J.K name the place and the time and will be there, the utg are sitting around the table looking at each other waiting for someone to do something and it's never going to happen.
ReplyDeleteThe consultation is no more than a slow train to nowhere, that the utg are all clambering to get on board.
J.K and TtT and the UCG along with the twitter action group are the only people capable of organising direct action and we need it NOW !
If George and Mildred and Inspector Clouseau (mason chapman and royal)were really concerned about the safety of the public they would have done something about it by now, over a year of empty promises.
ReplyDeleteWhat will it take before we react ?
Mini Cab Ranks at all main line stations ?
DIRECT ACTION NOW !
Absolute F****k joke this is another big blow to our trade we need to take action Now
ReplyDeleteThis will turn out to be yet another problem that the UTG will fail to deal with. UTG is a an acronym for UNDER THE GROUND and that is where the London Cab Trade will end up unless we collectively do something to stop these people from inevitably taking our trade to the undertakers.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't rocket science to realise that once we raised the profile of the M4 bus Lane over the lack of enforcement someone was going to look at it. 1st question was going to be why is it there? No air buses anymore just the odd black cab, doing 2000 rides a day. Easy and favoured option? Scrap it!
ReplyDeleteThis bus lane was universally hated by everyone except 1200 cabbies at the flyers, you will get zilch public support, its gone get over it!
Doom and gloom merchants realise all it will do is put a few quid on a few fares, NOT the end of the trade. 23,000 cabbies never go near the place and don't care.
