John Mason Appointed Editor of Taxi?

Travis B writes:
Well (maybe for the future),it would seem that he has been boosting his CV for the post as well as apparently leading the Cab Trade up the garden path again.
  • He comes on the LTDF and the LCDC Blog issuing an apology that he knew nothing about the suspension of the rank outside the Dorchester that effectively became a PHV rank on the night.
  • The Notice was signed by one of his staff (Mr Robin Gillis) who is on record stating that nothing goes out without John Mason's express approval.
  • Well, who is telling the truth? Did John Mason see the notice prior to issue or not?
  • Another example of the bizarre and ludicrous goings on at TfL.
Anyhow back to the headline, Mr. Mason when you move on from TfL, I am sure there is an opening for your 'creative writing' skills at TAXI newspaper, it seems now you both have the same derisory attitude to the Cab Trade and how gullible we are!
Mr. Mason,
We all look forward to your clarification of who did what and when and will not hesitate to set the record straight if you can show you knew 'nowt abowt it'.

  3. He didnt issue a notice to the LTDF. He wrote to everyone who wrote to him about the suspension.

This suspension did go out without his approval. Now all suspensions need to be approved by him.

  4. But if he cant trust his team to carry out the job in hand he should sack them and get a team that will or do it all him self.

The thing that really pushes this blog along is the urban grittiness and language that resin-ates with the activists in our trade. It hits the people that we are confronting with the anger and stark reality of the real people that work the streets of our capital. Yes, gross profanity should not be tolerated. But, come on Anderson shelter, this is not the Oxford debating society here. Don't go getting all up-petty all of a sudden, and most of all don't go getting UP yourselves!

  6. My opinion is

the request for suspension of the rank was probably dealt with in the usual manner -

"oh what, you want to suspend a Taxi Rank Yeah No Problems, now what was the reason".

Anon. (John Mason did not know)

You seem sure about this, what evidence do you have?

As the blog says they are happy to correct it if it is untrue!

Anyhow is not Robin Gillis 'Senior Staff'? you would have thought so from his job title!

He states John Mason sees them all prior to realese, either he does or he does not.

    Simples!

  9. Mary Whitehouse,
Although we respect your wishes to keep this blog gritty I must point out that this is not a closed site and is viewed by the general public.
There is a forum where you can use as much colourful language as you like, because they have a built in moderation tool.
This is a facility, we do not have on blogger.
I do not hold with manually moderating posts as this could lead to accusations of tampering with the message contained in the comment.
Its not hard to leave a comment without using a profanity and sometimes, if included, demeans the post.
    Therefore the regulation stands.

Jim, it's your blog and I accept you are trying to maintain a standard. However, the word ponce is commonly understood among people who understand the street as a descriptive term for a person that obtains money by the exploitation of others. The Oxford English dictionary lists the description as something that neither I, nor many true Londoners will ever agree with.

So when I say that the trade organisations will never put John Mason on ponce pay. I hope this now goes some way to explaining my case for the rather vulgar word ponce!

I agree, the use of unnecessary expletives and gross profanity is unacceptable. But, let us never forget who we are, what we do and who we are! This is not a game and we need to let good expression flow!

    Many thanks
    Mary x
