The Big Issue....By Wongo

The big issue is The Hackney Carriage Trade in London is (or was) governed by statutes that have stood the test of time and need strong enforcement.

PH are governed by carefully designed weak (light touch) regulation that the PH trade push to (and beyond as seen at The Dorchester) the limit with John Mason having to run to stand still while they (PH) know he has no teeth.

His background is as far as I can tell as a corporate axeman not as a hard nosed licensing guy so he concentatres on what he does best and we are left as the victim.

So it is not so much a conflict of interest more like someone trying to referee a Football match in one half of the pitch and a Cricket match on the other. IMPOSSIBLE.

All that said I am not here to defend him, he is a well paid public servant from our money who for many reasons (not just his own shortcomings) is unable to 'grip' the situation.

He is fully deserving of all the professional criticisms he attracts as he is the public face of the authority.

The Dorchester and Satellite Offices are just symptoms of TfL manifest incompetence and lack of understanding of the Cab Trade.

What do the UTG tell him at the meetings?

(That's why we need the minutes published Boys & Girls),

It's patently obvious it's either ignored or it's just people 'rowing their own boats'.

We all (trade organisation members or not) as licensees have an absolute right to know.

Mr Mason has had his 'run', we have been more than forgiving.

He is now it seems just reacting to events rather than implementing any coherent strategy to tackle the issues.

P.S.

Mr Mason, If you want to 'apologise' to the cab trade, don't do it on a single small organisations blog, issue a notice It's unprofessional.

  3. Our problems have been magnified by the fact that the biggest trade group the LTDA have spent so much time spreading lies in a bid to put drivers off joining the RMT. There are now a record number of knowledge students (8000) most aredrivibg minicabs and over half have accepted free membership to the LTDA. So that equates to almost half of the LTDA membership are subsidising mini cab drivers to do the knowledge, just so the general secretary can state the membership figures are at an all time high. It's up to the numbers to sort yourselves out and stop thus man damaging a once great organisation

  4. This is exactly what we are up against, that is why i said lets block the olympic site at Stratford,I also suggest we keep iy quiet when, inform drivers by twitter and word of mouth,on the day,See the only way we are going to get a higher authority to take note,Is when we affect them direct,And by stopping the building materials getting to the site, will make them sit up and listen,At a guess i reckon a hour demo will hold up the days production, and we makeit clear we will be doing it every week until we are heard, and the problem dealt with,Remember we are also going to bid for the World Cup,so they cant afford not to have the Olympic site held up.The beauty of this is,how will it look to other countrys, when they find out the reason we are doing it,is because the goverment and police dont uphold the law, leaving people open to Rape and Robbery, everyday of the week,GARYS

  5. Justin.

I am but it matters not. I am speaking for ALL licence holders here.

We all have an absolute right to know what is being discussed in our name.

Bob Oddy or Grant Davis or Peter Rose do not pay any more licence fee than a part time pensioner on a yellow badge in Kingston.

We understand TfL cannot meet us ALL, but they must let us know what is being talked about by whom.
The internet makes this very easy and cheap.

Transparency and accountabilty. Not much to ask is it!

We do after all pay for them to meet!
