I told him that taxi drivers do not operate on an underhanded sysytem of bribery. At that he walked off...
I went into the hotel to make a formal complaint. I spoke to customer liaison officer who in turn introduced me to acting head concierge. I voiced my total disgust at being blackmailed and informed them that I wanted some action.
Next day, David, the head concierge phoned me at home, to formerly apologise about what had happened. He informed me that the Westminster Bridge Plaza does not operate a bribery policy & neither does it directly employ Private Hire Services. I was informed that he was not going to accept "any of that bollox from his staff" I finished the conversation by informing him that there may soon be a mass leafleting campaign by taxi drivers informing every one of their customers about the underhand tactics and the overcharging that goes on at certain other hotels.
David, head concierge has since informed me that he has no problems with 1 or 2 taxis ranking on the forecourt and that door staff are now fully aware of this.

This post has been taken directly from the LTDF Taxi Forum and should be held up as an example to the whole cab trade. No one is going to help us... its completely up to you to help yourself.
The quick thinking and action of one driver, has set a president that could well lead to a bent hotel being straightened out. So for our own benefit lets make sure we carry on the good work started by Eze and service this impromptu rank.
If you are approached by staff for a bung to acquire a certain job, go straight inside and ask to see the head concierge and report the incident.
Perhaps this attitude should be adopted across the board and implemented at more bent hotels. Mason cant do anything, neither can Chief Superintendent Joe Royal and as for the LTDA, listen to the Butter boy tapes, Oddy has given up trying... so its up to us to help ourselves.
TtT.

As our Lord Protector Mr Robert Oddy said 'people use mincabs because they want to'.
ReplyDeleteStill he is a director of a company that is part of an organisation that runs PHV's!
Maybe we need another set of highly paid Santa Claus to stand outside.
Better still ignore that lot and sort it for ourselves!!!
I find the best way to deal with situations is to smile and say "yeah when the jobs in"After all you have only got it because he cant cover it,Then once the job is in ask the passenger if he has already paid the porter or shall i pay him and you give to me at the other end,This normally has the porter scurrying away, and is a great opener to explain to the punter what happens,See fair play to EZE,but i dont think complaints from cab drivers go anywhere,as management know this happens, and tend to turn a blind eye,But if we can get through to the passenger that they are being conned,And they complain, its a different story,i accept most dont, once they have left, but you only need a cple,Also by doing this, its makes the porters wary to ask
ReplyDeletequality move by that driver....
ReplyDeletewith the threat of a little action gets a good responce!!
cheers to that cabbie!!!!!!!
Power to the Hugh Skully of the taxi trade!
ReplyDeletenever ending cabbie story, the whole problem lies within the actual cabbies because most of them actualy offer money to the door staff to give them longer distance jobs and this is when confusion starts
